It was a Sunday morning and if I recall it correctly, it was February 11th 2006 and the worst snow storm was in progress to arrive in New York City. I was watching TV and my wife was making breakfast for both. It was around 9 am when her mom called from Maryland asking about the weather. She was chit chatting while going back and forth from the kitchen. She was walking and talking with absolutely no sign of any medial condition whatsoever. At least, I had no idea what was going on with her. When people look OK, you don’t ask them if they are OK, specially your own wife. If she is not bothering you, make sure you don’t trigger anything

I was lying down on the sofa watching TV and I could hear my wife babbling non stop. The all of a sudden, she is silent. I did not hear my wife anymore. She did not say bye to whomever she was talking to. I called her once, twice and no response. That is when I felt something was not right. I went in the Kitchen and that is when my whole world flipped. I saw my wife lying on the floor face down. At first, I thought she was searching for something under the oven but that was not the case. I called her name once and twice and then I felt chills because something was not right. Being a diabetic myself, I felt my sugar dropping by the seconds.

As I approached toward my wife, I noticed she was not moving at all. I held her and turned her face up but there was no sign of life. I was alone, scared and just about ready to run because I was dead sure that my wife is no longer alive. She was blue, sweaty and non-responsive. She got so heavy that I could not even hold her anymore. I could not cry or scream because I wanted to keep myself up and not let my diabetes make me weak. I already called 911 but time was running out on me to leave her dying. I was in total believe that she is dead and was ready to leave her like that and run away.

As I moved away and got ready to stand, something happened that almost took my breath away. My wife grabbed my leg so tight as if it got stuck in something. I looked at her and there she was hoping to survive. She was trying to tell me something and I could not understand what had just happened. I mean she was absolutely fine 10 minutes ago and I had no clue what the hell happened. I heard the ambulance siren but every second that went by was taking one more breath away from me.

The ambulance finally arrived which gave me little hope. I was now very much satisfied with the thought that everything is going to be fine. In my dreams!!!!!!!........ It got worst. The paramedics took a good look at my wife and started asking me questions about what had happened. I, as clueless as I was, gave them the simplest answers with explanations. They were convinced with my explanation and decided to take her to the hospital as they realized my wife’s condition was not getting any better. Just like me, they could not figure out the problem either.

Since it was Sunday and we were both home, both of us were dressed pretty casual. I mean home casual. The paramedics trapped her to the stretcher and carried her down in shivering cold. I grabbed my jacket and jumped right in the ambulance with them. We had a snow fall of at least 10 inches by now. The Ambulance that and parked in a position where it got stuck and started to drift away almost hitting other car.

My heart was about to stop when suddenly the ambulance moved and my breath came back. I was now able to think properly and believe my wife will be saved. The Ambulance arrived at the Hospital emergency Room where I had to go through a ton of paper work and official requirements while the paramedics transfer my wife from the Ambulance to the emergency Room stretcher. I was not convinced that my wife will be saved but I was wrong.

The doctor informed me that my wife had a brain stroke and blood has spread in her head. He said her life is in jeopardy and will have to operate on her immediately. I agreed on everything the Doctor suggested but that was not the end of it. He said she will have to be transported to another Hospital where a team of doctors are waiting for her to arrive. He gave me hope by telling me that all the arrangements have been made and the Ambulance is ready to transport her.

Once at the other hospital, I was given more paper work to sign. I did not read any of them and just kept on signing. All I wanted was my wife's life be saved at any cost. I had a short meeting with the Chief Surgeon who explained me the entire procedure of the operation and that the operation will be at least 8-10 hours long. The lengthy and delicate operation started next morning and 10 hours later the doctor gave me the good news. I stayed in the ICU waiting room for a total of 21 days while my was still under observation. And one day, my wife disappeared. Where did she go, and why?
