You Two Need to Be Closer

Short story By: xnbdyknwsx
Young adult

I’m Kylie and if you have ever talked to any of my ex-boyfriends before I got famous they’ll tell you I was a typical girl, sweet, funny, boring. Then I got discovered at a beauty pageant and suddenly every guy seemed to want the same thing… my body and bragging rights. They only wanted the pretty face, fame, and skinny waist, nothing more, certainly nothing less. So I never fell for anyone. Then along came Ethan. When I fell for someone he wasn’t anything compared to what I expected.

I'm Kylie and if you have ever talked to any of my ex-boyfriends before I got famous they'll tell you I was a typical girl, sweet, funny, boring. Then I got discovered at a beauty pageant and suddenly every guy seemed to want the same thing… my body and bragging rights. They only wanted the pretty face, fame, and skinny waist, nothing more, certainly nothing less. So I never fell for anyone. Then along came Ethan. When I fell for someone he wasn't anything compared to what I expected.

"Work it beautiful," The photographer said as I posed in the newest fall fashion by the most well known designer at the time for juniors. I smiled, and struck a pose. Get serious, struck a pose. Looked like a diva, struck a pose. After my photo shoot, a guy approached me.

"Hey, You're Kylie, right?"
This one wasn't like the ones who normally came up to me. He didn't seem arrogant or full of himself. I decided to hear what he had to say.

"Yeah, I am. What's up?

"I just wanted to say that you are just about the hottest girl I have ever seen. Listen babe, I'm going to give you the pleasure of taking you out tonight. Maybe I'll even give you my number." He winked at me and put his arm around me. I shook it off and walked away disgusted. I couldn't even stand the thought of his arms around me.

I stormed out of the photography studio and drove myself home. The second I got home I blasted my music. II felt my phone vibrate. It was my manager

"Hey Jake, what do you have now?"

"A fall shoot for the season." he replied.

"Great when?"

"Starts today but they need you for a while, they don't know how long yet though but are willing to pay a lot. There is a down side though…" His voice trailed off.

"Oh no, don't say it…" I replied afraid of what he might say.

"There's a guy involved…"

"Great," I said sarcastically and sighed. "I'll see you soon." I hung up the phone before I could hear any more bad news.

When I got there I saw the photographer, got into makeup, and got changed into wardrobe, trying my best to avoid the guy who's name I still didn't know after an hour at the shoot.

"So," he began. "The photographer pulled me aside and told me we have to be closer."

"Listen," I began "if this is some excuse to get close to me…" I began then I looked at him. He looked at me like I was an idiot and laughed. I thought I had figured him out but that was just the beginning.

"That's not my idea at all, uh, the director actually told me that your being weird. I don't mind though."

"So you're not some stuck up, its all about me, wow she is hot kind of guy?" I asked beginning to blush.
"Nah, nothing compared to you anyway. My ex would love that though. She would have loved if I acted like the stereotypical famous, well somewhat famous, person. That's just not me."

"I'm not like that!" I replied insulted and a bit annoyed.

"Well that's kind of hard to deny miss using the director." He chuckled and I blushed harder. He smiled at me. "I'm Ethan, and its pretty obvious you're Kylie."
"Nice to meet you." I shook his hand and smiled back trying to turn back a normal color from the crimson I was just moments before. His phone and he sighed. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing, its just my ex-girlfriend wants me to meet her but the shoot isn't over for another few hours." Ethan looked around. "Think they would notice if I was gone?"

"Well yeah, you're one of the main subjects in the shoot." I looked at him and could tell he really wanted to go. "I'll just say I'm not feeling well and we should get off."

"Thank you so much!" He smiled and called her back. I went and told them I wasn't feeling well and asked if we could start again tomorrow. There were no arguments.

I headed to my car and on my way I saw Ethan, he wasn't smiling anymore.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"She said that she made other plans since I didn't answer…"

"Oh," We stood there in silence awkwardly. "Well want to hang out since I'm fine and we're not due here until tomorrow?"

"Sure," he said with a half smile. He got in the passengers seat and he half smiled. We decided to go to his place and chill there.

"So this is where you live…" I said looking around. There wasn't much to make the apartment very roomy. "Why don't you spruce the place up?"

"I don't know, I didn't spend much time here before because I used to stay with my old girlfriend a lot." He said.

"Oh, well I could help you. If you want." Evan smiled at me.

"That would be nice." We looked at each other and started redecorating within the next thirty seconds with music blasting. We kept exchanging smiles every once in a while. Then when I turned around we were face to face.

"Oh, uh, hi there." Ethan said looking into my eyes. His eyes had a twinkle in them. He leaned in and gently placed a kiss on my lips. A slow song started to play.

"You know I've never slow danced with a guy before?" I said slightly embarrassed. I turned my head to the side and started to walk away but he pulled me close. He placed his hand on my hip and the other in mine. I carefully put my hand on his shoulder and the other in his hand as well. Just then I heard the door open and a bunch of girl's voices.

"OMG, what's going on here? You're supposed to wait three weeks before you go onto your next thing! I wanted you back." Ethan let go of me and looked speechless.

"I'm sorry," I said softly. I grabbed my stuff and left in a hurry. I said something behind me but I couldn't understand it. I got in my car and drove away in tears desperate to get out of the photo shoot. With no way to get out of the shoot and the sick cad already played, I had to go and wasn't looking forward to it.

The next day I went wearing the final piece for the shoot. A gray sweater with dark blue jeans that were super comfortable but somehow expensive. I also wore jewelry and a my hair was done onset and straight but there was a fan there so it wouldn't matter much. Then I saw Ethan. He was in a plain white tee with a cute hair style. He was wearing some type of dress type brown shoe and slacks. He tried to talk to me several times but walked away it worked until we were in front of the cameras.

"Listen Kylie, I'm sorry."

"Don't be I know you really like her, its fine." I threw up the leaves an gave a fake smile. I didn't realize he was frowning until the photographer called me over to look at the shots.

"You two need to be closer, I told Ethan but now he's the one who isn't being close." I looked at some of the pictures and there was one that really caught my eye, he was just staring down, like he was ashamed, and I was throwing leaves, like I didn't care.

I walked over to him and finally gave Ethan a chance to talk.

"What's up?" I asked looking down. He kissed me passionately.

"Actually Nothing" he replied.
