Tell us about your educational background?

As my father is an army officer, he has to move from station to station. I started my early education from Islamabad, then we moved to Okara Cantt, Mansar Camp, Sialkot, and now in Peshawar. Although, we changed stations all the time, but I continued studying in the same institution (Army Public School and College System) only in different branches.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 to 10 years?

As I am a science student, and I want to be in medical profession, I don’t see that I would have enough time to continue writing for some time. But as writing is my passion, I would certainly try to take it along, and I want to see myself in the queue of famous writers.

What do you think about our young Pakistani generation?

Pakistani generation is very talented, confident, sensible and analyze the current national and international affairs. They need a special suitable platform for their hidden talents to come out. They need to recognize their talents and polish them. It is a responsibility of a family and then school to encourage the young members of the nation and the builders of tomorrow.

Tell us something about your both books?

My novel “The Gasp” is a thriller novel, about the struggle of a teenage girl after both her parents are murdered, and her escape from the murderer itself. It was published in the form of chapters on a website. It became quite popular there and my readers asked me to edit it and develop it into a whole novel. I wrote it in a few months.

My other book “My Passions” is a collection of my poems that I wrote on different themes at different times. Many of the poems in this book are winners of different international competitions.

How do you feel when you get appreciated by the professionals?

I feel proud when professional writers appreciate the fact that I am an author of two books at such a young age. An American author, Gary Alexander appreciated my books and also helped me edit one of my stories. Our former ambassador in Greece, Rasheed Ahmad, who is also a great poet, gave a detailed analysis of my books and appreciated them. Those were proud moments for me.

When about to start new writing, what are you most afraid of?

I am afraid of breaking the flow in my poems and prose. I can’t decide on one idea or theme, and as long as I am thinking about it, my ideas replace each other again and again.

Are you competitive?

I am only competitive in studies, and try to keep the top positions to myself. J But in writing, I don’t usually care about such things. I believe in pure, original and unique writing.

Now how does it feel like when you get recognized in media?

Definitely, I feel proud that I am recognized by people and the media as a writer. Once a lady stopped me and my mother in a mall, and asked her if she was Myra Ahmad’s mother, as she had recognized me from my book. This situation left us surprised and proud of my little achievement.

Tell us something about your family?

I have an army background. My father is an army officer. My mother is a well-educated person. She used to be a teacher/lecturer but now she is a housewife and look after us. I have two sisters and one brother, who are all younger than me. I am very lucky to have such wonderful parents who love to encourage and guide their kids.

I am very much inspired by my father, who is very supportive and caring, and he is always the first person to appreciate our achievements, no matter how small. When my publishers in America sent me the proof copy, and my parents got to know about the competition that I had won and the publication of my books; my father, at once, decided that my books would be printed at a large scale and ordered more books to be printed without any delay. When I wrote the character of Hina’s father in my novel “The Gasp”, I had my father in mind, who would do anything for his family. The one thing that I really like about him is that he never says ‘no’ when we ask him for help in any matter.

My mother is a little stricter than my father, but she loves to encourage me and my siblings. She is the one who helped me a lot when I had just started writing. She is my best friend.

I love my both sisters, and my naughty brother. I can’t live without them. They are a necessity for my happiness.

I am also proud of my grandparents, whose prayers have led me to this stage of life.

If anyone wants to come into this field then what are the basic requirements?

I think that if a person likes reading and reads good quality books, then that person is capable of writing. Reading is the first step to writing. Reading influences vocabulary and command over a language, which are the secondary and important requirements for writing. If the writing in concern includes people, then a good psychology and understanding of different behaviours under different situations are required. A writer should also be a good critic and should welcome criticism over his writing.

Would you like to give any advice to our young readers?

Be loyal to your country. It’s because of Pakistan that we are here and have our own identity. If you think that you are capable of doing something, then you should not be afraid to achieve your goal.
