Her Name Is Ruthie

This is a poem I wrote to describe an amazing feeling that was awakened in me for the first time in two years this past weekend by a special girl. It feels great to just like someone again; I think I can finally allow myself the opportunity to love once more.

It seems an age since I allowed myself to feel

Vault closed, combination locked, perfectly sealed

Hiding away, cautious and timid, cynically healed

That secret place within my soul where love is real

She was oblivious, but she took a sledgehammer to the door

Her beauty stung my eyes, I had to see and explore

Her words a coaxing melody, soothing my damaged core

A carefully placed hand beckons me to soar

At war within myself, should I let emotion out

A debate between my hopeful heart and my mind full of doubt

This feeling is so foreign, yet I know what it's about

It lay resting in the shadows while I went on without

She brings it to the surface, slowly and with care

I stand in shock, I cannot move, all I can do is stare

She moves closer, holds my hand, smiles as if to dare

I can't hold back, I let go and our lips become a pair

Lost in a wild torrent, two bodies perfectly flow

A dance of souls and hearts, a gentle to and fro

Eyes locked, never flinching, never wanting to let go

A shared passion, so deep, breaking the status quo

Her name floats through my very soul, constantly repeating

She holds my heart in her hands; master of its beating

Together we writhe entwined, the very air is heating

Our fates are sealed, through a kiss, upon our lips first meeting

Beautifully written. It can be scary to open your heart to someone, especially after its been broken before. But to find love, you have to take that chance.
I hope this chance is the last chance you'll have to take with your heart.

Thank you so much for the kind words. This happened last weekend and took me by surprise...so exciting to know that I still have this inside me and someone is capable of drawing it out.

This is beautiful, Christopher. It's all I can say. So sincerely and beautifully written. I might even go as far as saying that this is your best work so far, in terms of writing. I love it! Thanks for sharing! :)

Hi there Chloe, thanks again for the wonderful feedback and positive reinforcement. I tend to write fluidly when I'm passionate about something. When I feel like I'm going to burst from keeping something inside, that is the cue for me to put pen to paper. I'm been so inundated with work recently; it feels great to finally have a new piece of work posted. I am hoping to have some spare time this weekend to do some reading and commenting; will definitely swing by your page and return the favour. Ciao for now :)

Hey there, thanks for taking the time to read the poem and for the lovely feedback. Nope, I have not shared it with her and I probably won't....maybe one day. Hope you are doing well on your side. I have some serious catching up to do with reading and commenting. Hopefully I will have some time this week. :)

Ah, why haven't you shared it with her? Let me tell you, most girls like poetry written about themselves because it's such a rarity these days. Like 99.998% of guys don't write poetry, and that's what like, story book guys do! And like, now all they do be like, fwm and that's romance...? I most certainly wouldn't mind a guy who writes poetry, but like, that is so freaking unheard of lol! :)?
