Am I going insane?

I wonder,

listening to the pit-patter

of the rain,

watching the outline

of shadows

dance in thunder-time.

The quickening flash

of bright light

seems to often cast

the night in day

and for a moment

I can see fay

Interwoven with all,

teeming everywhere,

like ivy on the wall;

here, sometimes there,

deceitful and pure,

burnt into the very air,

I see glimpses of magic

and darker things still,

like the part of tales tragic

manifest in manifest being--

it writhes and wrings

and laughs in light fleeting,

it is beautiful and wretched,

like the unfurling of a chrysanthemum

like the wasting of death fetid,

it is poetic, like the falling of a star,

it is prophetic, like the portention of an omen,

it is blurred, like a love loved from afar,

this is the thing, or the things I see,

listening to the drum of the freezing rain--

was that a figure? standing by the oak tree?

was that a face? illuminated in the space of a breath?

was that a hand, grasping my shoulder at last?

Is He standing by my oak, that clad in cloak Death?

it is all these things that I see, all these things that I feel,

but I have to ask,

is it even real?

Love this poem. It conjours up a dark fairy-tale like picture.
