So so sorry for the Italian language in the beginning, English speakers. Initially, the whole thing supposed to be Italian, but me, being an American, thought that translating the ENTIRE thing was much too much work. But the scene descriptions and later dialogue are in English. This is a story about an Italian mobster who rises to power after the killing of his father, who was originally the Don of the Marcio Crime Family. I'm honestly very disappointed in this. This is my first script published on here but I really don't have the motivation to fix the errors so here it is. (NOT COMPLETE, NON COMPLETO)

The opening credits fade into view as the background music plays. The scene fades to a middle class house at night. FLORENCE, ITALY 1963 is shown at the bottom of the screen. It cuts to four men cheering while drinking at a table with playing cards at each end.

INT. MARCIO HOUSE-LIVING ROOM-NIGHT

VINCENZO

Ecco il nuovo edittion alla Famiglia Marcio !

The men shout “Giovanni!” as they turn to Martha and her baby sitting the couch. They cheer again and go back to drinking, smoking, and playing cards. Vincenzo gets up.

VINCENZO

'Scuse me , ragazzi . Devo colpito il vecchio John.

Martha sets the baby in his cradle and walks over to Vincenzo. She steps in front of him.

MARTHA

Vinnie , spero il nostro nuovo figlio vi incoraggerà a uscire di questo business mafioso ridicolo .

VINCENZO

(CONT’D) Martha , per favore. In quale altro modo avrei potuto sostenerci ?

MARTHA

Come su come ottenere un posto di lavoro ? Un vero e proprio lavoro.

VINCENZO

Forse sì , forse no .

MARTHA

Stiamo cazzo inarrestabile . Lo sono sempre stato , sempre sarà . Sposta.

He pushes Martha out of the way and she stands, dumbfounded as three other children run through the room.

MARTHA

Hey , hey hey ! Vai alle vostre stanze e andare a letto

,

!

A black car, with a shamrock symbol on the fender, pulls up to the house. Two men dressed in dark green suits step out. One pulls out a shotgun, and the other pulls out a machine gun. Cut to inside the house. Martha is putting the kids to bed and kisses them goodnight. She goes downstairs to get baby Giovanni, but sees he is not in his cradle. She looks around nervously trying to find him and then hears the men laughing. She walks in the kitchen to see Vincenzo giving Giovanni a sip of alcohol while the men hold their laughs.

MARTHA

Che cazzo stai facendo ?! Lui è un bambino! Non un barbone !

Martha snatches Giovanni from him.

VINCENZO

Vedi, tu non lo sai , ma l'alcol è ciò che ci dà di Marico l'ingegno e astuzia . Sto solo preparando po Gio è tutto .

MARTHA

Mi disgusti ...

The men start chuckling

MARTHA

E cosa diavolo stai idioti da ridere?

They stop as they hear the door knocking loudly. One of the men with blond hair speaks up.

MARCIO MEMBER 1

Chi può essere a quest'ora della notte ?

Vincenzo gets a shocked look on his face and turns to Martha.

VINCENZO

Portate i bambini giù in cantina .

MARTHA

ma perché-

VINCENZO

Ora , Marta !

She does as she’s told and quickly walks out of the room. Once she’s out, all of the men pull out their guns and load them. The knocking is heard again. The Marcio Member 1 goes to the door quietly as the others wait behind chairs and the couch. Vincenzo waits behind a corner. Cut to Martha gathering the children up out of bed, then back to the living room. Marcio Member 1 goes up to the door and leans in on it. Cut to the men outside. One has a shotgun pressed against the door. The sound of the doorknob is heard, and the man pulls the trigger and blasts through the door, killing Marcio Member 1. The others watch in horror.

MARCIO MEMBER 2

Cazzo Santo !

VINCENZO

Merda !

MARCIO MEMBER 3

Uccideteli tutti !

The two Marcio Members draw their guns and start firing at the rival gang, who run inside and dodge the bullets, while flipping a table and hiding behind it. Vincenzo shoots a few times and runs upstairs to check on his family. They are all huddled in the corner of the room. Vincenzo goes to them and tries to comfort as he gathers them down the stairs and into the basement. The children whimper.

VINCENZO

Shh , Andiamo , va bene , va bene , andiamo , andiamo, Shh ...

The family gets past the gunfire and gathers down in the slightly small, cold, dark basement. Martha embraces her children, Rosalina is crying. Vincenzo bends down to her and grabs her hands.

VINCENZO

Hey , hey hey , ascolta me , hey . Non bisogna mai piangere quando le cose si fanno pericolose . Sei un Marcio . Tu stai difficile in ogni situazione , capisci ?

She nods her head. Vincenzo smiles and playfully, but softly, punches her on her chin.

VINCENZO

Lo stesso vale per voi ragazzi .

CHILD ROZZI

Sì , papà .

CHILD ANTONIO

Sì , papà .

CHILD ZERONI

Si.

CHILD EMILIO

Sì , papà .

More gunshots are heard, and a member calls out for Vincenzo.

MARCIO MEMBER 2

VINNIE!!

Vincenzo looks up then back at his family.

VINCENZO

Va bene ... va bene , ora ascolta . Non nessuno esce finché io venga a prenderti. Bene? Se si sente le armi si fermano , non si muovono , se si sente corpi cadono , non urlare . Torno a destra .

Vincenzo gets up, action music plays as he runs over to a small cabinet and takes out an old fashioned Thompson “Tommy” Gun. He puts a few rounds in his pockets, loads it, and heads up the stairs, before looking back at his family.

MARTHA

Attenzione , Vinnie .

VINCENZO

Bambino , io sono sempre attento .

He runs out, while shutting the doors. The family sits in the corner. Quiet. Suspenseful music plays as he slowly sneaks up stairs and into the hallway leading to the living room. He can see blood stains on the wall in front of him. It is silent. He firmly grips his machine gun as he calmly walks into the living room, to see his mates spawn across the floor, bloodied. They’re dead. He gasps in horror and starts breathing roughly as he looks around for the perpetrators. He gets behind the wall from before, and slowly peaks his head out. A rival jumps up, blasts the shotgun, and nearly hits Vincenzo. Vincenzo cocks his gun and jumps from behind the wall, screaming and shooting.

VINCENZO

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH !!!!! Die , figli di puttana !!!

(CONTINUES SCREAMING)

The rivals quickly hop from behind the couch and dart into the kitchen, while shooting back. Vincenzo shoots at the kitchen wall; one rival shoots at him with a pistol and hits him in the arm. Vincenzo yells as his gun goes out of control. The bullets fly everywhere, hitting a picture of Grandfather Marcio from 1933, and a portrait of Vincenzo and Martha, with Vincenzo sitting in a chair and Martha standing behind him. He gains control of the weapon and continues to shoot while taking cover. the rival is hot through the head and instantly killed.

VINCENZO

Voi pezzi di merda ! Prendi il cazzo di casa mia !

Rival 2 sees his dead partner, and makes a run for the next room. As he opens the door, Vincenzo bursts in and starts firing, only hitting the door and the rival in the leg, arm, and torso. The rival quickly jumps out the kitchen window as Vincenzo loads his gun.

VINCENZO

(Under breath)

Pezzo di merda ! (Growls)

Cut to the basement. The family’s faces are full of fear, except for Antonio, Emilio, and Rosalina. Baby Giovanni looks up in interest. Cut back to the rival. He is panting heavily, and limping towards the Shamrock car. He tries to get the door open but can’t. Cut to the dead rival member with car keys sticking out of his pocket. Cut back to the second rival.

RIVAL 2

Damn, damn, damn, damn!

He bangs on the car hood repeatedly then looks around, panicking. The rival runs towards an empty field. Cut back to Vincenzo climbing out the window. He sees the rival, aims his gun, and dramatic music plays as he riddles the enemy with bullets in slow motion. The rival falls to his knees and finally crashes onto the ground. Slow motion is off, Vincenzo pants heavily as he walks back inside the house. The title fades into view as the theme music plays: THE FAMILIES. A montage follows, showing the children age as the years go by. Mostly Giovanni. It also shows Vincenzo playing with the kids, him and Martha, more members at parties, Giovanni and his siblings growing older, pictures of killings and drug deals, Vincenzo’s aging, and much more. It ends, and 20 YEARS LATER… shows up on the screen. The screen fades into the streets of Miami, Florida. Fancy cars and beautiful women surround the area. Cut to local shop. 1983, MIAMI is displayed on the screen. An overweight lady customer purchases an item from the counter and leaves, but accidentally bumps into a shelf and knocks over several cans of soda. Soda spills everywhere. She gets a fearful expression on her face as the employee walks over to her.

FEMALE CUSTOMER 1

I-i-I’m so sorry! I…couldn’t tell where I was going.

RANDY (EMPLOYEE)

(Scoffs) Sounds like a pretty lame excuse, huh lady?

FEMALE CUSTOMER 1

I’ll pay for all of it, I swear.

RANDY

Yeah yeah, whatever…hey Gio! Clean up on isle fatass!

The lady gets a shocked expression on her face as she walks out of the store. A 23 year old Giovanni appears from a hallway wearing a janitor’s uniform, carrying a mop and bucket. He goes over to the spot and gets to work.

RANDY

Hey, don’t worry ‘bout it, Gio man. This bum job is only the start of our future. Just wait, one day we’ll be respected among the people, having them serve us as punishment for our mistreatment.

GIOVANNI

(Chuckles) I sure hope so. I can’t take this bullshit anymore. I’m only making one twenty-five an hour and my landlady upped the rent again. And what’s even worse, is my sister started living with me.

He finishes mopping and wipes sweat off his face.

RANDY

Yeah, it’s hard.

Randy looks around, then sneaks his hands into the cash register and takes out money, then puts it in his pocket. Giovanni gets a disgusted look on his face. Randy looks at him and winks

RANDY

Our little secret. (Chuckles)

Giovanni rolls his eyes and is about to put up his material when his boss comes out and calls for him.

BOSSMAN

Uh, Giovanni? Can I see you in my office for a moment?

GIOVANNI

(Under his breath) Shit…

He tosses his materials on the floor and follows his boss. Randy sneaks more money out of the register. Cut to the office. Boss man goes to his chair and sits down while putting on his glasses. Giovanni sits in the employee chair, laid back. Boss man grabs a piece of paper.

BOSSMAN:

(Clears throat) so…I understand that you’ve been working here for a while, and you’ve sent some complaints about your working system.

GIOVANNI:

Yes. I need more money in my check at the end of every week, or at least every few weeks. The cash I’m getting in my position now just ain’t cuttin’ it. I’d really appreciate it if you could agree to my wishes.

BOSSMAN:

(pauses) What exactly was your previous line of work, Giovanni?

GIOVANNI

Why’re you changing the subject?

BOSSMAN

Because I can, now answer the question.

GIOVANNI

Uh…I did, um…

BOSSMAN

(Cuts him off) ‘Cause, I did some research on your file and found that you were arrested for selling narcotics in ’79. You seemed to be making pretty good money then.

GIOVANNI

Well…yeah…but-

BOSSMAN

…And I also found that you were the getaway driver for a few scores back in ’75, being that you were only 12.

GIOVANNI

Uh…the driving restrictions were different back then…

BOSSMAN

And let’s also not forget the Great Florence Bombing in ’72.

Giovanni gets up and points his finger at Bossman.

GIOVANNI

Don’t you dare put that on me! My family moved to America in ’68! So that couldn’t have been me, or anyone in my family!

BOSSMAN

It was the roarin’ ‘70’s for you, wasn’t it, Vanny old boy? (Laughs)

GIOVANNI

FUCK YOU!

BOSSMAN

Just exactly what

of work does your family do?

Giovanni remains silent. The boss man tempts him by tapping his pen on the desk slowly. Giovanni sits back down and exhales.

GIOVANNI

Crime. My family is an organized crime mafia. We… I mean,

kill, gamble, smuggle, extort, such and such. But look, I haven’t been part of it since I was 17, so you don’t have to worry about me.

BOSSMAN:

Actually…I might have to. As I can’t give you your desired position, or even give you a raise, I can tell you one thing…

He leans in on Giovanni.

BOSSMAN

Get your shit together, Italy.

Giovanni sits silent

BOSSMAN

Get the hell out of my office.

Giovanni slowly gets up and walks towards the door. The boss stares at him the whole time. Cut back to the main section of the store. Randy is flirting with a woman customer. Giovanni comes back into view as he walks outside.

FEMALE CUSTOMER 2

So, what time do you get off?

RANDY

Unfortunately, any time my shithead ass boss tells me, but I suppose I could skip a few hours…

Boss man suddenly appears

BOSSMAN

(Loudly clears throat)

RANDY

Um, (stammers) uh- (clears throat) of course, that wouldn’t be possible due to my, um, sudden night shift position.

Cut to outside the shop. Giovanni sits on the street curb, watching women pass by in their bikinis, fancy expensive sports cars driving by, the sounds of the nice, sensual music of the 80’s.
