Her frail fingers curved around his cheeks, rubbing away the tears with her thumb. He bent his head to hide them and his thick, black hair tickled her neck. “I love your hair. It’s beautiful.” Her voice was weak and broken. She pressed her dry lips on his forehead, wet eyes, rubbed her nose to his and finally kissed him. He wanted to grab her, kiss her deeply and keep her safe in his arms. But he knew she was too weak for his love and passion. He kissed her back feeling her love and giving her his entire being. Tears flowed again, remembering the time she has left. She kissed them away and whispered in his ears, “Mere words cannot contain my love to you. But promise me, you would move on. Promise me you would live for me too.” He opened his mouth to argue but she silenced him with another kiss and looked at him, pleading. “I’ll try…” “I love you.” She said sagging back into the pillows. “I love you more.” His answer made her smile weakly. “….more than most.” She waited, and he answered, their usual banter. He moved her light hair from her face, “but I love you more than you love me.” She placed her bony fingers into his, their fingers fitting together. “I love you more than that.” She closed her eyes and he looked at her frail form. He knew, he would never be able to see the cheekiness, the lust, the love in her big round beautiful eyes that he loved so much. He knew he would miss her, and that he would never be complete again. He held her warm, thin hands, and sat next to her, even though he knew she would never wake up from this sleep again.
