Love is friendship that has caught fire. It is quiet understanding, mutual confidence, sharing and forgiving. It is loyalty through good and bad times. It settles for less than perfection and makes allowances for human weaknesses."

He was just another friend that i had accepted on Facebook. We never talked at first, but when we started it was a 'hi, hello, how are you' kind of conversation. Later down the year, I graduated from High School and started working at an Airline Company. I gradually started to spend more time on Facebook and so our friendship began. We started talking every day and I liked it.

I’ve been hurt a lot in my life from the people that I love the most. I had agreed and swore to myself that I won’t allow anyone else in my life without full guarantee that I wouldn’t get hurt. And as far as dating goes, I told myself that I would just be friends for as long as I want, until I’m sure and say “ok I can see myself with this person having something together”. Those who were already in my life I planned not to let them go but to sort out our differences and make our friendships stronger. Those who weren’t a part of my life anymore and wanted to get back in it, well everyone had a second chance so it was hard for them and who didn’t give up, just remained as an acquaintances of mine.

But weirdly I was comfortable with talking to him. His name is Satrogan Kevin Bhagwandeen Arjune Shiv; I know what you must be thinking “what kind of a name is that!”  Even to himself doesn’t like the name but I like it! He lives in St. Kits and Nevis but he’s a Guyanese. He’s twenty years of age, being a Pisces born on March 18th; his personality is defined by an experimental and passionate nature. While there are plenty of people who shy away from new experiences or situations, he is not among them.  He has a truly adventurous spirit that will allow him to try anything once. As a result of his varied interests, he has gone through numerous phases of self-expression. He takes to all of life's matters with intensity and passion. His heart is where football is, I’ve never seen anyone as determine as he is to accomplish his dreams and he has my full support.

We became very close over time and had mutual knowledge about each other. He broke the news to me that he was coming to Guyana to pursue football and become better at what he does best. I was over whelmed with joy and very excited to meet him, for it would be the first time meeting my perfect stranger. I was a bit scared of being a disappointment to his expectations but I wanted to see him regardless what he thinks about me. We would chat for endless hours not being bored or getting tired, I’m at my happiest when talking to him. He finally arrived in Guyana Wednesday afternoon, he became a busy bee. His family has a house in the other village nearby, Aimax. He decided to settle in there for the two years that he will be residing in Guyana for.

He had his first practice, Saturday afternoon to where I was invited. It was an unplanned event for me but I turned up with a friend of mine, Sharon. As I walked into the field, my heart beat increased and my hands didn’t know what to do but we went and sat on the benches waiting for the game to be over while I just watched him played. Finally minutes’ later the game was over and the team was walking towards us, me, my eyes was just on him. The guys stopped and said hello cause some of us were friends, they later left and it was just the three of us and I was mute. He said “Hello there” I replied “Hi” keeping my smiles to a minimum, he was just so breathe taking. There was an awkward silent for a few minutes, then he said “How are you?” while taking his shirt off, I swear I wanted to scream but just opened my eyes and smiled and said “I’m fine, how about yourself” and he replied asking if he had to do all the talking, I just smiled. I watched his hand as it moved up to rub some unknown irritant from his eye. His nose was straight and aquiline, his lips (his lips!) perfectly formed, parted slightly, his breath, I imagined, moving in and out in steady streams of air. He then said “stand up!” and so I did, coming together to measure our heights, I said “we’re the same height” he laughed and said “oh come on now”. He was 5 feet 7 inches tall, I looked straight up to his beautiful dark brown eyes. He was almost a head taller than me, my eye level was looking at his perfect pink lips which opened in a beautiful smile that I wish I, myself owned. It revealed perfect, white teeth. He was wearing a black t-shirt. He also wore slightly tattered black jeans and a pair of bright blue and black Magista sneakers which he was taking off. We then hugged and depart from each other. That was the weirdest first meeting of my life but somehow very memorable for me.
