“I’m scared,” I truthfully admitted, looking into Aaron’s eyes before shamefully looking down to my own pitiful declaration of weakness and misery. “I won’t let anything happen to you,” Aaron
repeated with a promising tone in a barely audible whisper. He didn’t look into my eyes as he said this, his gaze focused just below my frowning lips. His solemn vow was almost believable. Why
wasn’t he looking at me anymore? Why couldn’t he look at me when he said that? Did he simply not like the thought and idea of having to put my protection from God knows what in his hands? Perhaps
he could not handle the reality of having to be stuck with me for so long with no way. He almost acted like it was a silent sworn duty of his that he couldn’t just duck out of. Then why was he
touching me this way? “Promise?” “I swear,” he murmured, moving his face closer to mine as he reached up to cup my neck.

Clare Adams was just your average girl in her junior year of college. She got good grades, had a best friend who adored her, and an adoptive mother who loved her as if she were her own. Sounds
perfect, right? Wrong. She suffers in pain, every single day, physically and mentally, losing the sense of what is fake and what is reality. Voices in her head, images that flash in her mind and
visions that take place right in front of her that no one else can see. Sounds like someone who belongs in a psych ward, right? Again, wrong. Enter a hidden stalker, death threats and discapiated
adults outside of her bedroom window and she is absolutely certain she is going insane. Aaron Safford, the new man in the small populated town of Ferndale, California, should be the least of her
worries at this point. He has swept in with dangerous cobalt eyes and a wicked grin and he seems to make it his life goal to aggravate Clare as if it’s the last thing he does, without even trying.
His witty and sarcastic remarks, mysteriousness and lack of straightforwardness are all but enough to kick her to her last breaking point. As if she didn’t already have enough to handle. Much to
Clare’s luck, however, is that Aaron is the only one who can help her in the midst of her pain and suffering. He just very well may be her light amidst all the darkness. Is he just the witty and
mysterious man new to town or is he so much more than that? Or is he harboring a dangerous secret that could end the lives of everyone they both care about?
