I’ve been knocked down

Bled and cried

Felt my heart beat

While the tears dried.

My lips have split

My skin bruised purple

These little pieces of me

Left in a circle.

Slowly, very slowly

I pick each up

Battered and beaten

And small.

These fragile little pieces of me

Cold beneath my chipped nails

Have held on longer than possible

Waiting to be put back together.

So listen well to my words

These the tale of my pain

Because when all had given up

I continued to dance in the rain.

My feet splashed mud

My boots stained brown

But they were still as beautiful

A weird sort of crown.

I got up

When I was knocked down

It was difficult

And I still go around

I dance in the rain

Sing in the sun

Marvel at things

I now get done.
