Why do we blink?

Let me think,

About this life,

In the form of a blink,

I do my time.

Disguised as an effortless slumber,

Or the lonely death,

The blink will be there,

To remind you that there are still things to fear.

Why do we blink,

Is it to keep our eye from drying up,

Or is it meant for more insidious reasons,

Like to keep us from seeing,

Something that we don’t need to see.

I don’t like to blink,

When I blink,

I see darkness,

The darkness I’ve been trying to escape.

So please,

Take my hand and help me,

Pull me up off this ledge,

And make it to where,

I do not blink.
