What a great story! I love period pieces and yours has loads to savour. Really good recreation of the immigrant arrival experience and what a wonderfully seductive scene with the flapper girl at the end. I think I can guess who the cat and mouse of the title are going to be. Great work so far!

Hello ~ first of all let me thank you for letting me know about the new chapter, and well sorry i was a little busy with work so i only had free time to read now.
Again i must say the way you write has some subtlety in it, i really like the way you describe your characters i can feel their soul, it's easy to pick up the scenary by the way they act, i'm curious, why does she want him? is it a trap? it's aways a trap ;-; anyway looking foward to see how this romance will end up.

No worries! I'm glad you're getting a feel for their characters, though, that helps a lot! And you will see. :) What I can say, however, is that she's a clever one. Her type can be rather manipulative. Thanks again for your support!

I think you just left me speechless again. True classic, passion and talent flow through these words :) The characters are memorable and the interactions believable. I loved the classic vibes of the setting, but most of all...jazz! It's a genre I've come to adore over the years :) You've got me seriously hooked at that. I'm loving the interaction between Kay and Fleur, and is it just me, or Fleur sort of reminds me of Jessica Rabbit? :) Anyway, I agree with crowefoot, I think I know who the Tom and Jerry are. Sorry, too much cartoon reference haha :D Great job, BrieBlakmyre! :)

I'm so pleased that you like my work thus far! And yes, very much a Jessica Rabbit type :) Hahah, no worries I love cartoons! I even have full illustrations for all of these characters and plan to turn it into an illustrated novel :) Thank you!

I absolutely love your form of writing. In my opinion I forgot I was reading a story on booksie and more like a hardbound book. This was great. I think I'll be checking out your work more. :)

Wow, I was surprised at how well you were able to draw me into this story; normally I'm not a fan of things that are set back in the early 1900's, but your writing style alone made it so interesting. I really liked how the language made it feel historical rather than modern, also. It felt like I was reading a real published book, you did such a great job. Well done, you've gained a new fan! :)

Wow, just wonderful. Your writing is so good! It really submerses you in the scene. All your descriptions of the club, especially the opening paragraph where you talk about 'an alternate reality', were spot on.

Fleur seems interesting - I like the mixture of American and French, it really enhances her exotic and seductive qualities. I look forward to seeing how the two end up meeting more...

Also, love the front cover! Did you do it yourself? It's pretty gorgeous :)

I'm so glad you enjoyed this chapter! I really appreciate your comments. :) And that's great, I really want Fleur to have an exoticness to her, so I'm glad you picked up on that.
Yes! I did the cover myself, thank you :) I'm into graphic design, so story will eventually be illustrated as well.

I'm not one for romance but you played this very eloquently. Good job! I really like the perspective and word choice and I would love to get to know kay a little better. Although in the beginning it's hard to tell who is who, but otherwise nicely done. Seeya around! ~DJ

From the first sentence you hold the reader's attention and command a following that flirts with mental bonds! You have portrayed an accurate portrait of the man I feel I once was, & have me sweating like the character in your tale to hear the rest of the story!

Very excited to stumble upon something worth reading every word! I love the jazzy atmosphere, and Fleur-de-Lis seems like a character hidden in romantic history. Looking forward to continue reading this!
