Footprints In The Sand

It's getting dark, the hour is late

As we meet upon the sand,

I look at you, you look at me

And then you take my hand.

We walk along the sea shore

Listening to the tide

It speaks of worlds so far away

And oceans oh so wide.

It's not an easy stroll to take

The sand is wet and soggy

And if we turn and look to sea

We can see it's getting foggy.

But we ignore the fogs approach

We want to be together

We're not ready yet to part

Who cares about the weather.

The sand is wet, it sucks us down

Each step is a hard task

But with you walking by my side

My discomfort I will mask.

And stretching out behind us

The path we made is winding

But just one set of footsteps

Is all that's left for finding.

All too soon you have to go

You have to leave me here

I have to stay upon the sand

But I won't shed a tear.

I'll take my place back in the sand

In the hole that is my grave

Until you're back to comfort me

With all the love I crave.

I watch you walk into the dark

I look on as you cry

But I'll be waiting all the years,

Together when you die.
