Max Forrester is just the average kid, until one day he decides to save the world.

The gunshot wasn’t as loud as i had anticipated. the metal fragments, spiraling through the air, pierced my chest and torso without consideration, without real meaning or relevance, and with more speed that the fastest of living things. the small wound in my flesh leaked blood much like the way crying eyes leak tears. i was stunned, to know i was dying, and not be overwhelmed by the emotion i assumed would accompany such a violent end. suddenly everything went completely silent. all movement around me slowed down to an excruciating pace. i could feel my pulse pounding through my body, and escaping in torrents through the open wound. at this moment i felt no pain, i felt no sorrow. i was only amazed by all that surrounded me. i looked down at my hand and flexed it. it was fascinating how the muscles flexed back and forth perfectly and would soon move no more. i fell to the ground, a dull ache forming in my chest. i still could hear nothing and yet i was calm. there was something altogether serene as i bled out, losing consciousness. images swirled before me until the end, leaving the last scene of my mother imprinted upon my mind without the oxygen to sustain it.
