Remember this day, they said,
For today shall live forever;
In the hearts of people, amazed,
Even as we both may wither.
Who were these young boys hither,
Their names engraved on stone?
Are they still alive, in this world,
Or do they lie still, as bone?

The fire within them raged,
Their hearts filled with conviction,
That one day, they'd make it big;
Songs sung throughout the nation.

Years later, one returned,
A joyless, tormented soul,
Yet his friend never did-
Could his ashes fulfil his role?

None of the old remained,
A dream that never came true;
A present that one never saw,
While the other lived to rue.
