The Baby and the Bathwater

By Shadowgate

…...

16 year old Brett Carr got home from his part time job at McDonalds. When his eight year old brother Michael asked him how he his day went he replied "oh I had to clean up a rich coffee drink. Oh the poor man who spilled his drink had has little round table surrounded by a flood."

Michael laughed and replied "oh man you had to mop up the spill all around that poor man's seat?"

Brett answered "yes."

Michael replied "wow that sounds like a hazard."

Brett replied "a spill is always a hazard. It not only looks uninviting for customers it's a safety hazard."

Michael replied "I got it."

Brett went on to say "I had to move his small table just to ensure that I got the entire spill up."

Michael asked "did he have to move?"

Brett answered "no he was a calm old man who sat there quietly while I cleaned up the spill. If he'd asked if he needed to move I would have insisted he not move and stay there where he was comfortable"

Michael replied "oh but wouldn't cleaning a spill right in front of a customer be ugly?"

Brett answered "no because he spilled it to begin with and he along with everyone else expects to see it cleaned up."

Michael shot back "well I see your point but I'll admit I was surprised you didn't have him move."

Brett replied "my goal when cleaning up a spill is to remove that spill and not the customer who happens to be beside it. I'll tell you Michael you should never get a job as a babysitter ever."

Michael replied "I agree with you there because I don't want to change diapers but what makes you suggest I shouldn't be a babysitter? It doesn't seem relevant."

Brett answered "because of your comment that I should remove both the spill and the customer. If you got a job as a babysitter with that mentality you'd throw the baby out with the bathwater."

Michael laughed and said "come on."

Brett answered "yes you'd throw the baby out with the bathwater and I don't even want to begin to think of what would happen to the baby's rubber ducky."

THE END
