Faces Fade

Faces fade. Not of those long departed:

After a few years their picture emerges,

An idea of them which keeps you close.

But faces seen on the street,

Images snatched to be kept…

Her buttocks, her arse, her breasts,

The exact contours of her waste.

These I can recall, recollect,

I could reassemble and sketch.

A look, a glance, an expression, yes.

But the defining lines of her face…

They were harsh, they were bold, striking.

At that moment they consumed me,

Every crevice of my mind.

And yet… it's gone.
