Do you ever just feel sometimes?  Don’t bother to try figuring out where it’s coming from; you just ride the wave.  Where does it take you?  What fears does it unearth?  What anxieties emanate?  It’s a trip you can’t escape from.  It hits you, then it grabs you and it won’t let go until it’s done with you.

Why does it do that periodically?  Why doesn’t it do that consistently?  Why torture our minds like that?  Dare us to lock into the fetal position and rock ourselves until the calm sets in and the feeling lets go.  How does it decide when it’s had enough?  Why can’t we decide when we’ve had enough?  Is it because we tend to throw in the towel too easily?  Is it because we’re incapable of knowing how far to go?  But what about when it goes too far?

I think it’s for the strong to prey on the weak.  Emotion is stronger than the mind.  Although the mind is strong, emotion is what constantly feeds it.  So without feeling, the mind would be dead. And that threshold is where human life stands.

We crave emotion, we want to feel, but when the feelings become too intense, when they dim the lights in our mind; when things get too real or too harsh, we want the feelings to stop.  We want the emotion to shut off.  In essence, we want to feel dead.  And if the emotions won’t shut off, if we can’t find some way to quiet those voices and numb the intensity, then we stop life how we think to by our own hand.  Rope, knife, razor, a bridge, a gun, pills; we cease to feel.  The big difference is when we stop life by our own hand, we cease altogether.

But whether we convince our emotions to quell or we permanently end their torment, there is still one question to consider.  Are we aware when the dream ends?

Can we tell the difference between the dream and reality?  Reality is a dream, we’re just more aware of it.  But do we truly remember it more clearly than a dream?  That’s something to wonder when you’ve woken from the dream.  But when is that?
