I was the man you could see at night

holding a sliver of the moon’s light.

I became a shadow of the night

Safeguarded from the silver light.

The darkness changes a man’s heart

Raping what he knows and tearing his love apart

The black in the night fills a man’s heart

The creature within tearing his world apart.

When emerged from the shadows, it is in a different form

A sad soul and wicked eyes – do not presume he will do you harm

An obscene beast, the darkness greasing its form

It wades the waters in the night – do not assume it desires to harm.

With veins of antlers a’sprout its head, it is a macabre figure

In search of its purpose, its presence does not linger

Its oil-black hair flows beneath the water, tainting the reflection’s figure

The image cowers, hiding in the darkness, no trace it lets linger.

It was once a man, but now no one can see

The figure is a beast all fear to be

It lurks in the water, plain to see

A reflection of the blackened night it will forever be.

I was the man you could see at night

holding a sliver of the moon’s light.

Now I am a creature smothered in black

And you hold your breath, assuming I will attack.
