There will always be copies. And it is important to understand that no matter how many of them exist. There is always an original.

She felt her blood boiling within her veins as she watched the girl copying her every move. She jumped then ran then sat down and the girl did the same. Not only that but the copy-cat looked like her too. She spoke like her. She moved like her. She dressed like her. She did EVERYTHING like her. And most importantly she felt like her. Alice didn’t dare touch her copy. She didn’t dare touch the girl who stood inside her wall.

Alice sat near her. Endlessly. She smiled and a bright smile spread across the girls face as well. She didn’t want the poor girl to feel bad. Her the anger stayed hot beneath her skin. Alice didn’t dare show it. Until one day she couldn’t take it anymore. She couldn’t watch this girl mimicking her. So she pulled back her fist and hit the girl. She hit her as hard as a four year old could hit. And the invisible glass broke. The girl wasn’t on her wall anymore. For what was left of her lay on the floor. In a neat pile of reflective glass.

Alice looked down in shock. “I’m s-sorry,” she stammered. Her cheeks glistening with tears. Alice felt like a piece of her had shattered with the glass. Looking back at it Alice laughs. “It was just a mirror,” she thinks to herself now.

But back then. Back then the girl was real. More real than the love of Romeo and Juliet. More real than the stars in the freckled sky. More real than the world we all live in now.

And it still is.
