Night had completely grabbed hold of Hana. The young woman stood beneath the lit tree covered with violet petals. She always had difficulty tearing herself away from this tree. Native only to Hana, it bloomed year round. Even after the rough rain, most of the petals remained. The most remarkable trait was that they turned a bright pink when the weather grew warmer. Exactly the color the woman wore now. She wore a short kimono with images of flowers. Her dark hair fell across her chest in a braided ponytail. She appeared to be nothing more than a harmless woman from Japan. Madoka was without a doubt one of the most dangerous women in Hana…

Another woman with long straight hair that fell freely walked up the path onto the hill where Madoka stood. “Tamaki is asleep Miss Nanasaki” she said in a gentle voice.

“Tamaki is two years older than I am. It is not necessary to inform me every time she goes to bed. She is not my daughter.”

“Why not? I tell her every time you go to bed.”

Madoka stared at the woman for a moment. “That is rather creepy.”

Ignoring the comment, the woman continued. “The Scythes are becoming restless Miss Nanasaki.”

Excitement suddenly seized Madoka’s face. “What have they done now?”

“You really are fond of the strong” she giggled. “Apparently the rivals had another bout in the woods of Ordeika and the third has been seen roaming the streets of Capital Hana late at night.”

“Ordeika?” Madoka asked puzzled. “Is it connected to the First False?”

“I do not know, but we must be warry of the rivals. They are unlike anything we have back home. For the last sixteen years the two have been the vanguard of their party’s efforts. House Tylinn and the Setell Clan. These two have been at each other’s throats for as long as any can recall.”

“Yes, they say their war extends more than a thousand years. Remarkable!” Madoka smiled.

“But everything changed sixteen years ago when two boys first demonstrated their prowess. They are now men and possibly the two most powerful to emerge in millennia” she warned. But Madoka only seemed to be more excited than before.

“Two witches and one false demon. That is the current Count of the Scythes. The only individuals upon Hana’s soil considered powerful enough to slay the First False. But I have only been here a total of three brief years, and it has been four since the last Count. The Counting shall soon take place again, and the number shall increase to four.”

Roots from deep underground sprouted up and began to wrap themselves around her petite body. Wherever they touched her skin, bright glowing pink petals bloomed quickly upon the roots. The irises of her eyes turned a dark red.

“I shall extinguish any flame, halt any current, and divert any winds they have to summon. I shall build a mountain in their path and upon this mountain, my gardens of flowers shall be found blooming while all else goes out. Our organization shall kill off the Tylinn and Setell. I shall kill off their leaders personally. I shall kill off the current Scythe. I shall slay the First False. Hana is too small for three. When we are finished, there shall only be one.”

The other woman took a few steps back as the ground began to cover with thick roots and leaves. “Are you investigating Ordeika?”

“Yes, I believe I shall do just that.” Flowers now rested gently along her cheek. “It is time Shion. It is time for Hollow to stand at the peak of the world. They are confident with the power of their witches and false demons, but I must show them what true terror means. I shall show them the smile of a true demon…”

The woman awoke screaming in the dead of night. Her hair clung to her cheeks and jawline where it fell. Tamaki’s usual delicate yet relaxed appearance was now twisted in terror. Pressing her palm to her face, she began to recall the dream.

It was the grounds of a vast city. Probably Capital Hana. But it was in rubble as large structures crashed to the ground and smoldered. Bodies lay scattered, many mangled and bloodied. There was commotion in the distance, but she was unable to make it out. Two women stood facing the other, as if ready to battle. One was Madoka, someone Tamaki held dear. The other was a stranger, but something about her screamed danger. A tall and slender woman with long dark wavy hair, the shade as any found in the east. But she appeared to be a westerner. Off to the side knelt a third woman on her knees that seemed to be pleading with the two. Tamaki recognized her immediately and anger began to take hold. She clenched her fists but managed to regain calm. Did she come to Hana? Rising from her sweat drenched sheets, she walked across her room and opened a drawer. Inside revealed a pistol. “Nanasaki Asami” she whispered in a cold and frightened voice…
