There once was a man who claimed to be evolved

And everybody who passed him must be told

The beard which presented itself upon his face

Proved this to the girl in leather and lace

Young, pretty and naive was she

"This man's beard does seem to be

Unlike my Uncle's and brother's too

Even my third cousin, Peter Petagru"

"I'm evolved, you see" was his response

Before turning on his heel and leaving at once

So the story was told to all who could hear

As the man with the beard stood very near

Tall and proud like a sunflower

How wonderful it felt to have some power

It was not thanks to his beard but his brain

Which thought of this way to find fortune and fame

Nine years later in a Pharmacy out of town

The bearded man was spotted by Miss Brown

He was secretly buying a can of dye

"Dye for Beards" was the source of his lie

"The man's not evolved, he cheated us all"

Poor Miss Brown felt the biggest fool

It was she who first believed the hair on his face

Was as unique as her leather and lace
