Ghosts Of Battle.

Do you see the castle
Up on the hill?
Keep on walking and
You certainly will.
It's walls are crumbling,
It's seen better days,
But it still has the power
Over you to amaze.
You stand on the stone,
Stare out all around.
You listen intently,
What is that sound?
It seems to be a thundering
Of galloping hooves,
Of many men marching
Armies on the move.
And then you hear
Steel against steel,
A swinging sword
You're sure you feel.
And there are archers,
Arrows fly
A breath of air
As they go by.
You hear the screams
The battle's roar,
You are amid
An all-out war.
The air does shimmer,
Your senses clear,
Were the ghosts of battle
Ever here?
But you can't help thinking
Of the fallen men
As you make your way
Back home again.
