This is just a rough draft of a really long poetic short story I'm writing. I was inspired by the musical/play Hamilton, but more so by history itself, because I've always been interested in the American revolution. It's about the rise and fall of Benedict Arnold. I will continue to take away from, and add to it's content until I'm sure it is right. I still need to write an entire section on the events after he became a traitor. Enjoy

Benedict's Battle

Raised in a grief stricken sickening way of life, most of his brothers and his sisters had died, they were taken by yellow fever like a killer with a cleaver and their father started drinking corn liquor all night,  He said learn from this Benny boy and keep your path right, grow up, be a man, learn from my mistakes and work as an Apothecary for as long as it takes.  By sixteen Benedict, only knew strife, so he joined the Connecticut militia and he finally chose a side.  He served in the French and Indian war, watched his best friends die like many had before.

Who knows what he'll become, who knows what he is for, but he's a damn fine soldier and settles every score.  Who knows where he is from, What radiates his lore, but he's a damn fine soldier and not much more.  Benedict's battles begun!

High up on Mt. Vernon,  Washington's world is turning, wait it might be burning
 who knows.
With a chop chop chop and a drop of a drum, Washington's battles begun. (Rebel)  "Washington's war?  You mean king George's war", (Loyalist) "king George's war? leave him alone, what has he ever done but give us a home?" (Rebel) " You mean a home to have or a home on loan?  I don't think we're talking about the same king George, the one I know of is an absolute scourge, he's the master of all, servant to none, a regular, regular... Britain's loaded gun."King George's war has begun.

Finally! Benedict's successful, God bless you,  the young Miss Peggy Shippen wants to undress you. With her eyes.. undress you with her eyes.  oh my!!!  Shes been thinking of you all this time.  Never focused on another, never listened to her mother when she said don't bother, never listened to her sisters never listened to her father.  A foxy little flower that was from Philadelphia, born into power and was brought up to be healthier, They met up at a feast her daddy held each week when she saw Benny, she turned red and could barely even speak.Miss Shippen how glad  I am to make your acquaintance, nonsense darling you require no maintenance, alas I insist you're a little to young, but the second you get older we can have a lot of fun.
Who knows what he'll become, who knows what he is for, but he's a damn fine soldier and settles every score.  Who knows where he is from, What radiates his lore, but he's a damn fine soldier and not much more.  Benedict's battles begun!

Bang Bang Glory and Fame

My name is Benedict Arnold, and I'm a man of medicine,  you are just a citizen, but really are you listening?  Are you ready for the remedy?  Indeed I am,  Let's go!Ahh that's nice, do you feel better now inside?  Why yes I do Mr. Arnold, Paul Revere replied, It's just what I needed to be able to ride and tell everyone that it's time to pick a side,  pick a side I asked? just what's your task?( Paul) to warn all of the people that we need to hold fast, it's the only way that we will ever feel relaxed, and not have to worry about being over taxed,  the British are bitches, liars, and thieves.  They claim all our riches with rolled up sleeves.  If we don't fight back then who else will,  Are you prepared to die? are you prepared to kill?

Bang Bang, shots rang,  cannon fire all around us,  BOOm BOOm fog looms English soldiers will surround us.  BOOM BOOM, Impending doom, bayonets around us,  Bang Bang Glory and Fame,  They will always sing about us.

( Benedict)  Mr. Revere had convinced me, so I joined the sons of liberty, and I started off nice and strong, I smuggled all my goods in and out of neighborhoods and my business was really coming along.  I was elected to be Captain of the Connecticut militia and I wish that I could wish ya the best.  Kept my eye on the prize for a nation on the rise for the colonies, goodnight and God bless.  My name is Benedict Arnold, my nature is carnal, if you think you can defeat me then try, but there is only one way this can end and that's me with a grin because one of us is going to die,  it won't be me ,so that leaves you, are you willing to risk your life?, Because I have nothing but my pride, and a pistol by my side, I don't even love my wife. The number one thing above anything else that I hold dear to my heart, is my own reputation and that's my declaration who care if it tears friendships apart.

Bang Bang, shots rang,  cannon fire all around us,  BOOm BOOm fog looms English soldiers will surround us.  BOOM BOOM, Impending doom, bayonets around us,  Bang Bang Glory and Fame,  They will always sing about us.

The Brief Friendship of Washington and Arnold

Benedict, Benedict ruthless as ever, strong as an ox and oh so clever, never think, never think that you can ever get the better of Benedict.. Benedict.. Benedict Arnold.
It was  Boston august 1775 ,Benedict had never felt more alive when he met George Washington for the very first time, for the very first time, for the very first time.  Benedict took and managed Fort Ticonderoga just like Caesar with golden wheat and a toga, George Washington knew he was a fighting man and wanted him directly under his command.  Old Benny's job was simple, to move toward Quebec, to take and hold the city with total disrespect, to cause a rebellion, put the English in check like a natural born hellion, ALL HANDS ON DECK!  But when he got it in the leg and the battle was lost, Arnold realized it wasn't worth the cost , wounded by a brit with a musket gun, even shot and injured he got the job done. Good Job Arnold, Washington said,  Benedict  replied I'd be better off dead.  I failed you sir, we lost the fight, Washington said that's quite alright. George Washington said, son you get the job done but it's not over yet, we got em on the run.  I need you to go out to Lake Champlain, just build some ships, kill some English, and we will pop the champagne. You'll get that promotion that you really deserve, I promise Arnold but we still need you to serve.  This time you're leaving to fight at Saratoga where the French will be watching and decide once it's over, if they will join our cause or leave us high and dry, low and wet I would bet, Benedict replied after all they are the French, watching from the side lines, warming up the bench.  This time will be different Washington said, for if the French don't support us we're as good as dead.
Benedict, Benedict ruthless as ever, strong as an ox and oh so clever, never think, never think that you can ever get the better of Benedict.. Benedict.. Benedict.  Arnold.

After the hell I went through in that God awful fight,  I better get that damn promotion tonight.  That little coward Gates ran and hid like rat and left me alone to take the advantage back. What kind of example is that for the men, to turn tail and run so the English can win.  How Washington can tolerate it is way beyond me, if it was my descion he'd already be hanging from a tree.  Don't even get me started on that snake Charles Lee, Talks trash about my friend and than smiles right at me, I would bet later when the war gets late he'll be swinging from a tree branch wright next to Gates.

My name is George Washington I'm the commander and chief,  I'll render Britain useless and then send em relief.  That's just the kind of man I am,  I'm not a sore winner, even when I can be, maybe? Like I really give a shit about what Charles Lee thinks,  It's the behavior of Gates  that truly disturbs me, did he really retreat like all the men are saying?, while you held fast and commenced with the slaying, Of the English, little tiny titty baby boys, I heard you ripped ones arm off and used as a chew toy, (Benedict)  You know how the men are when they get drunk and wild, they tell crazy stories like they are going out of style, but Horatio Gates really did run away, even when every one yelled for him to stay. ( George)  That really is truly a terrible shame, I always liked Gates so I think that he'll remain, I'll give him another chance, to fight instead of dance, who knows maybe he can find the courage that it takes.

Dear Mr. Arnold,
I recived news of the injury you sustained at Saratoga, and it's in the same exact leg from the one at Ticonderoga.  I haven't forgotten our very first meeting, at my daddy's dinner party It was me doing the greeting.  I was only fouteen and I've had only that night, but I was so dissapointed when you left to fight.  I'm so so sorry that you chose the wrong side you could have fought for England and maintaned your pride.  I really really hope that you'll be shipping out soon, because I see your handsome face every time I see the moon.  Well I'm finally older now and I am no nun, I'll hold you to what you said when I was young, so when we meet again we're gonna have a lot of fun.

With love, Peggy Shippen

Dearest Miss Shippen,
My rags are drippin, I think they need to be changed.  I can smell my leg rotting, my mucles are throbbing and I think that I'm growing deranged.  I very much look forward to another lovely  meeting, don't worry, this time I'll do the greeting.  I oh so very often think about that dinner party night, but I knew that if I had you, it wouldn't be right. But that's alright,  Like you say baby, now that you're older, I wont have to give you an ice cold shoulder. One last thing,  you're on the wrong side,  don't you understand the English have false pride, King George hasn't got a single shred of honor, and for the very reason he's as good as a goner.
See you soon, Benedict Arnold.

The year was 1700 and 77, I was high as a kite and flying through heaven.  After taking that second shot to the knee what else was there for me to do but bleed.  To plead for what was mine, what I rightfully earned, all the battles I've won, all that we have learned.  Don't you see? It was because of me, for you from me, these victories.  When all of your generals turned and ran I was right there with a flag in my hands, mounted and deranged, vengeful and viscous, I can still taste the blood and it's oddly delicious.  I was meant for war, and I'm fit for command,  give me a mission and I'll prove that I am.

Benedict, Benedict ruthless as ever, strong as an ox and oh so clever, never think, never think that you can ever get the better of Benedict.. Benedict.. Benedict. Benedict Arnold.

Peggy Shippen & Major Andre

Given a new house that belonged to Benjamin Franklin, the rebels are about to receive a bloody spanking.  From their dear old English dad, they only have a fraction of the men that England has.  My name is John Andre and I am an artist, I can paint a portrait blindfolded upside down in a harness.  I've written song, written plays, lived my life the best I could for all of my days.  If there's one thing I can say about the great English banner it's that living under it has taught me how to use my manners.  I hear there's a girl here in Philadelphia, her name is Peggy Shippen and she was brought up to be healthier.  I'm going to her daddy's dinner party tonight,  maybe I'll get lucky if I play my cards right.

I need the perfect plan, I need a perfect plot, I need the right man, not another crack pot.  I need the perfect man, one who know some secrets that will be a spy for me and pledge his  allegiance,  I have a man in mind, but it will take some time his name is Benedict..Benedict.. Benedict Arnold

When I first walked in all I saw there were fellows, they were saying how George Washington was weak and he was yellow,  I stepped in and said you men speak like fools, while George Washington stays calm and keeps cool.  You loyalists aren't soldiers you wouldn't know the first thing to do,  when bullets start flying and turn your brains into stew.  Show some respect for our enemy cause he would do the same for you.  Just then a foxy little flower walked by and in a single moments notice she caught my eye, I had never seen a woman that looked that fly, so I took my time, I waited and I waited for the perfect chance, to ask miss Peggy Shippen if she wanted to dance.  She said you are to bold, I said don't be cold.  Let me sweep you off your feet so I can lighten the load,  she smiled and she turned as I heard a little sneeze, I said God bless you Peggy as she wiped her hand on her sleeve.  I turned her back around and said don't be shy, I am Major John Andre and I'm your guy.  After we danced she kissed me on the cheek and quietly said "until the next time we speak"  I couldn't believe that I had fallen in love on the very first night, I thank God above.

I need the perfect plan, I need a perfect plot, I need the right man not another crack pot.  I need the perfect man, one who know some secrets, one that will be a spy for me and pledge his allegiance,  I have a man in mind, but it will take some time his name is Benedict..Benedict.. Benedict Arnold

The next day I couldn't stop think about her, her neck, breasts, and smile what she looked like in a shower.  I was sitting in my courtyard drawing a map when young miss Peggy Shippen sat down in my lap.  I said where did you come from? is that where you intended to land? she said I haven't stopped thinking of you since last night began.  I want you she said, please be my man. I said of course I will darling but I need a helping hand.  There's a man name Benedict do you know he is?  Not well she said I met him once when I was a kid, but since then I've outgrown my stupid little crush, now it's only you Major who keeps making me blush,  I said I need you to jot down a lovely little letter Mr. Arnold has been injured, it will make him feel better.

I need the perfect plan, I need a perfect plot, I need the right man not another crack pot.  I need the perfect man, one who know some secrets that will be a spy for me and pledge his complete allegiance,  I have a man in mind, but it will take some time his name is Benedict..Benedict.. Benedict Arnold

The Turning of Benedict Arnold

Miss Shippen you are trippin if you think that I'll betray, the greatest friend I know, the man who tried to help me clear my name.  I am Benedict Arnold the bravest of his generals and he's counting on me to fight for America's potential, to fight for freedom and to die if I must, but my name will remain even when my bones are dust.

Finally things have come to blows, Washington says the war is coming to a close.  Benedict's career has become his own fate, never the less he was highly irate.  By all appearances Washington betrayed him, put him on a table and let the congress fillet him, Arnold should have heard his warning when he told him to resign. To take a little break and come up with a design, but Benny was a suborn man if anything else.  He didn't even listen, just put his words up on a shelf.  Washington asked him to look after Philadelphia, where the enchanting Peggy Shippen was looking even healthier, little did he know she met a man from famous plays, who went by the name of  Major John Andre.  He was a British officer, wise man, and philosopher, who would do anything to win the war Including to seduce a girl that was loose by saying that she wasn't just another English whore.  He came up with a plan to corrupt the very man that had been beating the English for years,  Through the young Miss Peggy Shippen's natural beauty, her alarming charms, and her tears.

Oh Miss Peggy How long has it been? You were just a teenage child, but that was some time ago and you've grown and gotten old, you've blossomed and become so wild.  Just say what I must do to gain favor with you, I want us to be married in June,  Oh yes Mr. Arnold I except your proposal I can't wait to say that I do.  There is only one thing that you can do for me and it's to stick up for yourself, for once.  Don't be such a fool, you're Washington's tool, you're an American colonial dunce.  She played on his vanity and tugged at his sanity until he couldn't tell truth from lie.  He started sending and receiving encrypted letters and unwittingly became an English spy.  Sending information to the King himself, my god is this what it's come to.  He thought to himself more often and often, what would Washington do?  I thought he had my back and we were brothers in arms, I thought that I had earned his respect, but I was nothing more than another soldier in a war, to be stepped on like an damned insect.  I made him what he is, and I did it like this, with two holes in my God damned knee, I will not roll over, I am no coward, I am not another Charles Lee.  I defended him and our cause to boot, I walked blindly into destruction.  Now I've made a choice, through actions and voice, and it will be England's reconstruction.

Miss Shippen you are right, I've finally seen the light, enough is enough, and it's time for me to fight.  To fight for my self and whatever I have left.  The only friend I have now is you.  Darling you're so fine like imported French wine and that my love will more than do.  I can't wait to receive all the things that I believe that I truly and sincerely deserve,  Washington won't know what hit him, but he'll finally realize my nerve.

Georgie boy knows I deserved that promotion but he didn't do a damn thing about them,  he just sat by carelessly like the French at Saratoga when I won the battle without him.So I write to you with hopes that I will soon have my day,  for I could really use your help Major John Andre.

Dear Mr. Arnold I can feel your pain,  you have no idea the favor we can gain, when King George hears of the things we plan to do.  I can personally guarantee gold for you.  An estate in Manchester with your own private garden, and a position in court where your opinion will be hardened.  Send more information that England can use, and I will personally see that we take care of you
your friend Major John Andre,

Dear Major Andre I have startling news, news that I think you'll be able to use. The Continental army is in it's death throes the great George Washington is standing on his toes,  The colonial dollar is losing it's value and Washington simply doesn't know what to do, but  no need to worry for I have a plan, we'll print fake money and flood the whole land, making it useless so George can't spend a single coin that he holds in his hand.
your humble servant Benedict Arnold,

When Washington finally caught wind of this change, he immediately felt that he was to blame, what could he have done to prevent this act of treachery, It was pointless now to think of things he could not foresee,  Washington was a good friend, probably the best, but he could not help who would not help himself.  So Arnold was renounced including all his deeds, they were meaningless write up to the holes in his knee, quickly word spread of the traitor he became, and the truth was that only he was to blame. Who could resist such a silver tongued girl when she whispers in your ear and your hair starts to curl, but still Benny made his bed, he dug his own grave and his name was now dead.  Just another spy, an agent for the English, England's greatest spy who performed a monstrous treason,  He died in England in 1801, A man without a cause, a man with none.

Benedict Arnold was a patriot, who fought hard for the American cause, but all it took was one woman, seemingly lacking in every flaw.  To turn a good man into a traitor, to make him turn his back, conditioned to a coward to make up for what she lacked, Miss Shippen took advantage of a broken, beaten man, and showed us his true colors, we could not understand.  So they sailed away to England which is where they both belonged to live a traitor's life and live it nice and long.  All the battles that he fought in, and all the years he served.  He still died a traitor which is just what he deserved.
