To the Bitter End

I sat by a tree today

The tree stood still

No motion, no joy

Just pure captivity

A river full of sewage

Was flowing to the bitter end

The opposite of the flow—

One would expect

I tried to get past it, and

Write the theme song of joy —

I had in mind

But the piercing fall wind

Blew right through my fingers

My hand, at the mercy of the wind

Began writing the song for me…
