Chapter 17

"I'm glad we have a few classes together." Katherine hooked her arm with Ethan.

"A few? More like all of them. I hid in the back of the last two classes so you wouldn't sit next to me. The last thing I need is for the little miss know it all to hang out with me." He teased.

"Are you sure it's that or because I'm your cousin?"

"It wasn't that at all. Just wanted some time to think. I'll sit with you tomorrow. Let's sit in the middle though. The front row makes me feel intimidated."

"Alright, we'll sit in the middle."

Someone bumped into them and she dropped the books she had on her arm.

The person didn't even say sorry, he kept walking with the hood over his head.

"Asshole." She mumbled under her breath.

Ethan bent down to help her pick up her books. "Here. This came out of one of them." He handed her a red envelope.

Her hand shook as she took it from him. "I didn't have this in any of them."

She looked around to see if she could find the hooded male. He was nowhere to be seen.

"Maybe that guy dropped it. I didn't even see his face." He shrugged.

She opened the envelope. There was a white card as always only it didn't have a poem this time. 'Congrats on your first day. You should be careful.'

"It's actually mine. I probably didn't see it when I opened my books in class."

He frowned. "Are you okay? You don't look so good."

"I'm fine." She nodded her head and stuffed the note in her bag. "I um...we should get going. Mom will probably have dinner by the time we get there."

"Right. I forgot that we were coming over to your house. They're going to want details of how our first day was."

"Of course. You know our parents." She forced a smile. "I'll see you there."

He gave her a wave and headed for his car.

Once inside her car she tried to control herself. Her stomach felt in knots. Who the hell was doing this to her? Some crazed ex of Dom's?

He never mentioned going out with anyone but that didn't mean he didn't date before her.

She didn't have any demented exes.

She took a deep breath and turned on her car. The engine started and stopped.

"Oh come on, don't do this to me now."

She had meant to take it to the mechanics but hadn't had time. It started again and kept on. She sighed in relief and drove to her house.

Now that summer was officially over and most of the wedding was planned she could focus on her courses.

To be honest she was glad that Ethan was in all of her classes. She would have a friendly face until she met everyone.

She would also have him too if anyone tried anything. Whoever this person was that was trying to scare her wouldn't have a chance at her alone.

As she parked Ethan was getting out of his car.

"I thought you would've beat me here."

"My car wouldn't start."

"Why don't you use the one Dominik got you?"

"Because my dad would have a heart attack." She opened the door.

Her dad in question was in the living room with Caleb. They were watching the news on sports. She didn't say anything to him considering that he wasn't talking to her yet.

"You know it's been months since you've said a word to her." Caleb commented once Ethan and Katherine went into the kitchen.

"Not that long."

"Have you looked at a calendar? Just because you don't speak to her does it mean that she won't marry him. Everything is set and Ethan told me that invitations are going to be sent next month."

"I don't want her to marry him."

"Yeah, we know that. Fathers usually don't like the guy their daughters marry. Just like usually mothers don't like the women their sons marry. It's normal but get over it. Katherine is over your childish behavior."

"So I should just hand her over like that?"

"Yes and if you won't walk her down the aisle I am. She already asked me in case you don't show up."

Michael frowned. "She would really do that?"

"We know her and yes she would. She defied you in becoming engaged again. I think it gave her a sort of power to do what she wants from now on. If I were you I'd stick to her side."

Michael stood up. "I'll be back."

He went into the kitchen. The conversation stopped when he walked in.

"Michael." Kailie greeted hostely. "What do you want?"

"I want to speak to Katherine. Can we go outside?" He directed his gaze to her.

She nodded and followed him. They went through the back door. He sat on the porch step and motioned for her to do the same.

He looked out to the sky and watched as the night changed colors.

"When I look out here it reminds me of our old house. Obviously there were more trees there. I remember the tree house I built you."

She smiled. "I remember too. You let me keep most of my dolls up there."

"You were six and I couldn't say no to you. You also didn't like boys then. You put a sign on your door that said 'no boys allowed'."

"God, it was mostly glitterfied and the words couldn't be read well."

He started laughing. "The first time Ethan tried to get in you hit him and kicked him off the tree. I felt sorry for the kid, especially because he broke his arm."

"I thought I was going to get in so much trouble. Then aunt Alani told him it was his fault because he wanted to prank me. He was going to let beetles loose inside my place."

"Then the second time he got in you shaved his head when he fell asleep."

It was her turn to laugh. "I only shaved one line down the middle though. He woke up before I finished the job."

"I thought you would always stay my little girl." His voice cracked.

Tears filled her eyes. "I'm still your little girl."

He nodded and wiped at his eyes. "I'm sorry I'm making this hard for you. I just know things of Dominik and the way he was before. His family doesn't help, rather what's left of it. I'm scared of your life being endangered."

"I told you he's out of that life. I love him dad. He means the world to me."

"I can see that. You never would've defied me if it wasn't true. When Caleb told me just now that you asked him to walk you down the aisle if I didn't show up...I'm not being a good father. I would never want to miss the chance to walk my baby girl down the aisle. Even if it is to a man I dislike."

"Does this mean...?" She looked at him hopefully.

"I'm going to go. I'm going to walk you down the aisle."

She threw her arms around him and hugged him tight. "Thank you daddy."

He hugged her and held her close. He could still picture her in her overalls and pigtails. Oh how things had changed. She was now a woman and getting married.

"He better treat you right."

"He will, he already does."

"Good. You're mother is going to be glad."

"She loves you and knows being mad at you is for your own good."

"I know. Come on. They're probably waiting for us to eat."

He stood up and helped her. She hugged him once more and they went inside.

"He's coming to the wedding!" Katherine ran up to Dom and hugged him.

She had wanted to tell him since yesterday but preferred to do things in person.

"Who is?"

"My dad. He's going to walk me down the aisle. I'm so happy Dominik." She breathed in the scent of his cologne and sighed. "Everything is perfect."

He ran his hand through her hair. He loved it when she laid her head on his chest.

"That's good."

"It's excellent." She leaned back. "I can't wait to get married to you."

"I can't either."

She stepped on her tiptoes and kissed him on the lips briefly. "What were you doing when I interrupted you?"

"Making arrangements for our honey moon."

"We're going to have one?"

"Of course. It's one of the most important things following the wedding."

"I just thought since we took a trip around the world that was it."

"We didn't see the whole world. I was thinking of a couple of weeks in Tahiti."

"Mmm, that sounds heavenly." She agreed. She would like to spend as much time with him shirtless as she could. "Two whole weeks of being half naked in the day and naked at night with you. I love it."

"I thought you would. I also ordered our bands for the wedding. They should be arriving next week."

"Ooh I want to see them."

"Not yet, not until the wedding."

She pouted, "Why not? They're just bands."

"I'm getting then engraved on the inside."

She raised her eyebrows. "Really?"

"Yes. I want them to be special for us."

"You're going to be my husband. That's special enough."

He grinned. "I know but it's something I wanted to do."

"Then I'll impatiently wait for the wedding day. What else have you done?"

"That's it for now. I was going to get my tux made but Ethan already made the necessary arrangements. It's handy to have a personal assistant."

"Where is he? I thought he was going to come here straight from class."

"I sent him to get some paperwork from the club. He's also bringing some coffee."

"How long before he gets here?" She bit her lip and slid her hands up Dom's chest to the top buttons.

She didn't wait for his answer, she simply started to pull the shirt apart. She tenderly kissed the skin she was exposing.

He didn't let her go far. He dug his hands into her hair and angled her head up to capture her lips.

Her spine tingled at the feel of his fingers on her scalp. She clung to his halfway opened shirt.

"Oh god, I'm sorry. I'll come back later." Ethan interupted them. He retreated back as they stopped kissing.

"No wait." She called after him. "I can't do anything with Dominik now that you're here. I don't think I would feel comfortable with you knowing what we're specificly doing at a certain moment."

"Yeah, that would be weird." He smiled slightly.

Dom licked his lips and buttoned his shirt. "You can put the papers on my desk."

"I have the coffee too." Ethan set the folders down and held the cupholder in his other hand. "I got you one too Katherine. I thought you would already be here."

"Thank you." She took it from him gratefully. "It's just what I need. I'm going to take a bath and I'll start on the homework we got today."

"You should've told me you had homework." Dom told Ethan.

"It's not a lot and I thought I could get in a couple of hours before going home."

"We'll go to you just working the weekends after this week. You're going to be needing your afternoons for assignments."

"Thank you. I'd appreciate it."

"I'll leave you guys to work. Thanks again for the coffee." She told Ethan before walking out.

She met Precious on the way. She was carrying her favorite chew toy in her mouth.

"Hello girl. Coming in from outside?" Katherine asked her.

Precious made a noise as if understanding her.

"Why am I talking to you as if you could speak back?" She giggled.

She opened the door to Dom's room while Precious trotted to the door next to Kerim and Juliet's room. There was a doggy door installled and it was her room.

Katherine had fun making fun of Kerim for that. He had taken out the bed in there and had ordered a doggy bed made for a queen.

The room had been decorated in purples with fluffy pillows everywhere. She had every toy for a dog and ceramic bowls for her food and water. There were containers that deposited what was needed from on top of them.

He had trained Precious to pull the lever on the dog food container and only the amount she needed for each meal. It was incredible really. Any dog would just feed itself all the time but not Precious. She was smart.

Katherine watched Precious go in and she shut the door. She already had clothes there so she didn't have to bring anything with her.

She put her dirty clothes in her own hamper and turned on the water for the huge tub. She threw in a bath bomb and waited for it to be ready.

She usually relaxed with soft melodies. She connected her phone to the small system in the bathroom and got inside the water.

It was warm and relaxing.

She was staying tonight and she didn't want to know what kind of note she would be getting in the morning.

She wanted to think that it was just someone who didn't have anything better to do.

Closing her eyes she took a small nap.

She dreamed of being in Tahiti with Dom. She had seen pictures in the internet of that place before and she could picture them.

Dom kissed her in her dream. She wound her arms around him and kissed him back. Suddenly she was falling backwards into the water.

It burned as she breathed it in. She opened her eyes to find herself literally breathing in the water. Something was pressing down on her chest.

She tried pushing it and realized it was a hand. Looking up, someone dark was over the water. She clawed at it.

She couldn't breath and the water was filling her. Desperation and fear gripped her.

She moved her hands and tried to grip the edge of the tub. There was nothing she could do. Black dots danced in her eyes until she blacked out.
