Rayna stood and stared straight towards, the pale face of her mother, worst than what she had expected it to be. Her mother , Mayzie was lying on the floor, covered with a cloth till her shoulders, a lady neighbour, who out of the  few neighbours they had,  could remember, Mayzie's concern and work for the betterment of their small estabilishment of Bruny; sat sobbing next to her body. The kid in rayna's arms cried without a stop, and she kept on making futile attempts to console it. the dry wind blew,  drying her tears . The small wooden house of hers, sorrounded by  trees which had shed their leaves, was enveloped in gloom, and the brown, enviornment, added to its gloominess. Mayzie had  spent whole of her life struggling ,with a hope, and died the same way. Rayna handed over the kid to , Lorenzo, her husband , and went and hugged her mother's body, she almost laid on the floor crying, Lorenzo placed the kid on the bed , and tried to comfort his wife. Two more ladies with their men entered the place, to pay their tribute to the old woman , who had lived and died in loneliness. The cries of the kid filled the room, Rayna sat on the floor, her head in Lorenzo's lap, looking at her mother, and thoughts began to run in her mind about her childhood and glittering tears rolled down the sides of her eyes. The sun was about to set, the trees outside covered with squeeking sparrows, suddenly got naked and the cluttering sound of their wings almost vanished with a bash, a drizzle of feathers added to the pile that already existed outside mayzies house.   It was quite dark by the time the mourners left . Rayna was making some preparations for the funeral to be carried out next morning before getting to bed, when she discovered a pile of old letters ,old unsent letters, they were addressed to Mr.Bruke Walt,
'Its been years since we have seperated and i long to see my daughter, see my Diana. I don't know when is the Almighty going to call me to his heavenly abode , but considering my ill-health i assume it would be quite soon. She would be delighted  to meet her twin, 'our Rayna', she is very lovable, hoping you would pay a visit soon,
Mayzie'
Rayna was brought up solely by her mother. Loved and nurtured, very delicately, her words, her behaviour harmonized with the aesthetic beauty around ,in which she grew up . Mayzie had always kept her under the impression , that her father had passed away before her birth and had never mentioned anything about her sister. With time as she grew up, the liability of the family passed  into her hands and for the same , she moved to a nearby town , from where she would earn , keep the money that was needed by her , and send the rest to her  mother, along with her medicines. She used to pay timely visits to her ageing mother. There she had a fortutious meeting with Lorenzo, she married him and they were one life in two different bodies, not aware where one ended and the other began .Both of them moved to another town where Lorenzo used to work . She was constantly worried about her mother, and made several unsuccessful attempts asking her mother to come and stay with them. Her neighbour in the new town was a grief struck girl who had lost her mother before her birth and had seen her dad being murdered in front of her eyes,  the later incident had ,had a profound impact on her  and now  it was inexorable to bring a streak of smile on her gossamer face, ambiguously similar to that of Ryana. That forlorn girl had nobody left except her lover with whom she was staying and was carrying his love child in her womb .The immense  grief of her father's murder had taken over her fragile body like a parasite and was killing her insidously . Her sufferings were exacerbated when she learnt about her lover's other affair and that her only hope , only love had  betrayed her. During this time she had developed some bonds, some affection with Rayna and Lorenzo too. They could  very well construe  her impertinent and mercurial behaviour which was engendered by the unfairness of her life. Rayna began taking care of her , during her pregnancy, but the infidelity of her lover was making her heart bleed from within. One day , she rushed into Rayna's house and hugged her, clutching her tight , she was pale, pale with fear, pale with horror, her eyes culpable and ingenious too. Her hands shivered and were wet with blood, she was trying to speak but couldn't. She had murdered her own love . Rayna for a moment lost the control of her senses, both she and Lorenzo knew the consequence of this act. She was declared  guilty of a murder and very soon was to be given a death punishment. Admist such horrifying setting she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl whom she  vouchsafed to rayna, considering all that she had done for her . They had many things akin to each other, and had shared a uniquely beautiful feeling. Her final day had come ,she was to be given capital punishment ,Rayna's grief was unfathomable .The very same day Rayna  recieved a letter and learnt about her mother's ill health. She named the baby girl after its brave mother, "Diana", and left for Bruny with Lorenzo and the child as soon as it was possible ......
Rayna knelt down next to the grave whose stone read, 'Mayzie Walt'. Slowly people left as the funeral came to an end, it was all silent till a sparrow flew away from the tree branch just above rayna, a feather came down in a slow swinging motion and lay on mayzie's grave, the silence broke again and the air was filled with the cries of the kid in Lorenzo's hand .
