"Hello, it's a pleasure to meet you. You most likely already know me but some of us have not yet become acquainted. A proper introduction may include names but my name is rather interpretive so I'm going to tell you who I am at the end of my speech. I am not a person but I suppose you could call me a being; let me be what you want me to be but I am always present. Remember, I am always present in someone. Some welcome me and we seem to get along grandly. Others push me aside and ignore the fact that I exist. And still others have known me at times but cannot grasp who, or rather what, I am.
"My role varies form person to person all depending on how they view me. In some cases I am a glorious honor and considered wise but at times I am regarded as a beast that mercilessly strangles the life out of their prey. Because each person is different the way they view me is different. However, I do not change; humans are the ones who tend to be inconsistent."
"Most regard me as solitary but that is certainly not the case. I watch; I observe; I imagine; I dream; I interpret. And some people are kindly enough to let me dwell in them as they watch the light of sky fade over a marvelous yet cruel world. They let me sense other's wants, needs, desires. Of course, right now, I am referring to those that welcome me. I have never shared an intimate or enjoyable moment with the many who despise me. But with the wise I am accepted and present when necessary, which is very often. In the hearts and heads of thousands I make sense of the incomprehensible and I dwell in thought on what frightens humans most. I help one to gain knowledge and understanding by opening their eyes and actually causing them to see. So many others have drowned out all that is pure with their loud, harsh, never-ending words.
"I hope by now that you have a sense of my being. Most refer to me as 'Silence'. It really is a lovely sounding word, but just like all words, my name should not be spoken without thought. Nothing should be said without thought. I know 'Speaker' and her power. She is breathtaking and tempting but she is also destructive; at times she has come close to obliterating my hosts and me. People often get hurt more by words then they do by silence because I am in the souls of the cautious. I am in the souls of one who perceives and studies. I am in the souls of those who do not merely float through the world but grasp at shadows and look to the past to learn and gaze to the future to hope. I am not always of use but, please, remember me. When anger threatens you or when tears stream in rivers across your translucent skin, please remember that I am here and I will not hurt you. I have been considered savage but really all I do is heal. Let the wonder of watching and dreaming be the light of your world and where the light is present so am I. Once again, it was a pleasure to meet you."
