sometimes, the senses we possess
fade out as years climb on
the stars that once shone brightly
bow their heads when shown the dawn
.
for me, alas, it was my eyes
the curtain finally fell
i wandered through a pitch black maze
adrift in sightless hell
.
i cursed my eyes as traitorous
how could they flee the scene
in youth, they were my guardians
my vision, clear and keen
.
but thank the lord for music
for it made me see the light
now music granted imagery
no longer grasped by sight
.
yes, i've learned to count my blessings
and as strange as this appears
i'd rather put my eyes to rest
than see with silent ears
