It is as if you do not know me,

Laughing and talking and drinking your wine.

I suppose, for all eternity,

Never a word, and never a sign

There will be to show that you know me.

I will return your civility,

And laugh and talk and drink my wine.

I know that, for all eternity,

Never a word, and never a sign

There will be to show ‘tis you I see.

But in my heart,

Somewhere deep inside——

I will be weeping as you tear me apart.

And yet never a word, and never a sign

There will be to tell you of my pain——or anything of mine.
