Under the refulgent summer canopy,

little birds dart among the leafy green panoply.

Flies of all sorts—from dragon to damsel to butter to deer—

all serve to keep the season at hand so near.

Waters run low, baring gray rocky heads,

as the peepers remonstrate in their now muddy beds.

Fungal life flourishes, only to whither,

as Apollo drops his brilliant light hither.
