Strange Prison

They had no right to keep us trapped in our own village. Menacing looking guards with very sharp sword were posted every few feet. I had to escape. Many of us had tried bribery and other...dignity tainting methods to no avail. No one was to leave or enter the village at penalty of death, which made the need to leave even more urgent. I had noticed that one of the guards always took a nature call at the same time every night which left a gap of a few feet to freedom. I decided to take my chances. Better dead than a prisoner. That night I packed light and positioned myself as to not draw attention and waited. The time came and like clockwork he left. Adrenaline coursing through my veins, I ran like I've never ran before and whizzed by the other guards. They chased with fury and I truly thought at one point that they would catch me until I made it to the forest. That's when I heard them stop and quickly march back. I made it! I thought to myself, wiping the sweat from my brow. I had walked only a few paces in the darkness when I was blinded by an intense blue light. Before I could react, I was hit squarely in the chest by it and fell to the ground. Behind that light was a necromancer. His evil red eyes glowed as he laughed a gutteral laugh. I suddenly felt my body go numb and with that, the necromancer commanded me to stand and against my will I obeyed. My mind was not affected but I could not speak to protest. I soon realized that others like me were around him. He was forming an army and commanding us like puppets. The guards at the village were not trying harm us but protect us against the evil invader. That's when I had wished I had never left the prison of my village.
