The way things were before and the way they are now.

A call came that day

Others told me you were the best

That was the way

I believed all the rest

Since then a little more

Was all that’s needed

More than before

And I superseded

So work with the mighties I did

And work with the lowlies

Hard as I tried I never put my bid

Hung on to days rather slowly

Days hang on to some

Let others go with the tide

Brand some with pride’s crumb

Others pride by setting aside

The call that came dazing comes

Voices sound old to a sole ear

Wisdom? Vintage? Lonesome?

Which one makes one a career?
