The story is old, or so we are told,

Of the sacrifice and the Father's Son.

The writings say that it was destined to be,

From that sinful time, after time had begun.

Such a sad, sad, tale of love and betrayal

Woven with threads of selfish deceit.

Wars for no reason were won out of season,

Or were taken down in bitter defeat.

Then came salvation for a ungrateful nation

One man's ending of sacrifice.

He was the lamb for the ultimate plan,

The one to pay the final price.

They came upon him in the world

The Word and the thought of rebirth.

But when he went to teach in Hades

Did he find Satan's copy of earth?

Where souls are a-fire with greed and passion;

Filled with pain, suffering, and twisted mirth.

Where bearing false witness is a daily sport

And the price of honesty isn't half what it's worth.

Could it be that we're not free,

Did the story get twisted around?

God, as always, my trust's in you,

You are the only truth I've found.
