I was walking down the orchard’s path, trying to get some apples, but I couldn’t reach them. My family is very hands on and they don’t accept help from anyone. So they won’t help me, they think it is good for me.

Then I see something in the distance, a baby deer! They usually don’t come around these parts. I walked closer, they were trying to get an apple, but just like me it was too short. Then, the baby deer looked me in the eye and said “I am not what I seem.”

At that moment, I almost fainted. I asked the deer, “What are you?”

“I am a shape shifter.” He told me, and his neck grew ten feet and pulled a branch down. I took two apples off the branch and I handed one to him. Then he said, “we make a pretty good team.”

“I have so many questions. Who are you? What are you doing here? Why are you talking to me?  This is so overwhelming. What is your name?”

“Fawn is my name,”

“My name is Ricky.”

“Before you ask me any more questions,” the shapeshifter cut me off, “I want to propose a deal. I will help you get apples, if you keep me a secret.”
“Sure ,”I say, “you can sleep in the barn, if you want.
“Thank you!” Fawn says gratefully.

As the the weeks go on, Fawn and Ricky become best friends. Fawn is kept a secret, and Ricky never tells a soul. His parents begin to get suspicious of how Ricky went from no apples, to baskets and baskets a day.

One day, his parents decide to follow him and they see him with Fawn. When Fawn stretches his neck up to the tree, they freak. They gather up the town, and the next day they try to run Fawn out of town.

Ricky tries to explain to them that Fawn is nice and that he has been helping Ricky, the one thing his parents did not want to hear. He explains that Fawn is friendly, but all they hear is that Fawn is a monster.

They declare. “If Fawn does not leave by the morning, we will light him on fire.”

The next morning, Fawn tries to leave, but Ricky stops him, and says, “If you leave, I leave too!”

Fawn says “No Ricky, this is your home! You belong, I do not.”

Ricky says “But there is nothing here for me without you.” Despite Ricky’s protests, Fawn leaves, but what Fawn did not realize is that Ricky followed him.

When Ricky’s parents wake up, both Fawn and Ricky are gone. Then Ricky’s father speaks to the town later, “The monster has stolen my son! We must find him at any cost!”
