Chapter 1 The hunt!

The crisp cool breeze ruffled against my Eagle feathers. As I descended from the sky swooping and catching air.  Pacing my wings to land gently on the ground. As a golden pink sunset set behind the mountains. I shifted back into human form. I was deep in enemy territory. I had been preparing for this night my entire life. I had been trained to be an assassin. The enemy had one simple hold on us. They had a sorcerer. Creeping silently through the camp of tents. Nira captain of the guard and daughter of Elron the Eagle shaman, and Nikia the Queen of Eagles. Thoughts of the past tried to plague her mind.  She shook them away. There was no room for error here. This night would mean peace for her people. Nira would do anything for peace. She removed the dagger from the holster on her thigh. The feathers that remained at the back of her neck ruffled. She sensed danger was near. A small wood cabin was in the middle of the camp of tents. Something told her that's where the sorcerer would be. She remained silent. The sorcerer looked eagerly into a very large bottle. The bottle contained eerie pink and purple smoke that oozed around each other but never mixed. Images started to appear in the smoke, weird visions of the campsite from above accompanied by muffled sound of wings beating powerfully. The sorcerer had never heard noises coming from the bottle, the telling stones in the bottom of the bottle were red hot and nearly liquefied. Surely this was a bad omen. He sat down heavily, his chair groaned with respect for the situation. For once in his life the sorcerer could not interpret the vision from the bottle. There was strange magic afoot! Perhaps ogderlins, or frizknoghts, or shapeshi... no, no, no, impossible, shapeshifters had been gone from this planet for so long, or so it seemed.

Nira was at the cabin door. She took a deep breath to calm herself. She entered the cabin with her dagger drawn. The first room she came to was packed with books. The second was full of musical instruments. Finally she entered the last room. There was the sorcerer looking eagerly into a bottle of pink and purple smoke. Suddenly his head snapped up and he gasped. I froze, his green eye's held me in place. I tried to will myself to move, but his magic was strong. He tentatively walk closer to me. He seemed to be studying me. I had no idea what he thought. I was wearing a black leather dress.  I was sure my brown hair was messy with my golden Eagle feathers still showing. I should have concealed myself better.  Finally I got my arm to move. I slashed at him with my dagger. A blue light knocked the dagger from my hand. My people were doomed.. This war had been going on so long. I was just so tired. Tears started streaming down my face. My legs gave way and I feel on the cold wood floor.

The sorcerer new instantly when the door burst open that he was dead. It was his worst fear, not only was it a shapeshifter. It was a shapeshifter assassin! The most deadly and dangerous creature in existence... How was I still alive. She seemed slowed and tired. She was exquisite, tight leather dress and mystifying blue eyes, the depth of which were immeasurable. Her hair was as wild and free as her ravenous soul. Surely she was a princess as well as an assassin. I walked closer to her cautiously, why I was getting closer to a sure death I do not know. I desperately wanted to touch her cheek so she could bless me with endless miracles. For a moment she snapped out of her trance and slashed viciously at me. I cast a light at her and the dagger dropped. She looked at once destroyed and hungry. She collapsed on the floor. I picked her up and held her close to my heart. I kissed her forehead. How selfish I must have been to steal that kiss without permission.
Nira didn't known what to expect, but somehow she end up in the enemy's arms. Sobbing and broken. She felt his lips on her forehead and brushed prettily affection was rare among her people. Reserve was life to show such weakness would get you beheaded. She stayed in his arms. She was wondering why he was showing her such kindness. She was sent here to kill him after all. "Sorcerer I have no desire to kill, I just want this war to end. I'm sick of watching the people I love die." She blurted out without thinking.
"I want exactly what you want, this war is pointless. I've been trying to end it for so long. I've been studying the ancient texts night after night for years. Just a few moments ago I found a hidden page in one of these texts. It speaks of a dark and cruel demon that cursed our peoples against each other. It also has a map, where it leads I know not, the first step on the map is a strange invocation of light. So I suspect it takes you to a spirit realm or another dimension. Come with me, we could take up ANY challenge together and save our peoples from themselves!" Before she could answer he kissed her passionately. He didn't know himself anymore. He lost all control with her. This was something stronger than magic.
Nira hesitated, his lips felt so warm against hers. Her heart skipped a beat. She heard her self whimper, then felt like a fire had been ignited in her soul. She slowly pressed her lips against his. She tasted him and slid her tongue in his mouth. The both gasped, and she felt it, a spark. She let out a breathless sigh. "I will go with you Sorcerer. I do hope we can achieve peace together." Nira blushed prettily. "I'm Nira by the way, do you have a name Sorcerer?"
The sorcerer lost his balance and ended up on one knee. He couldn't quite answer her question yet, he was very dizzy, so he kissed her hand and collected his senses. "I have an ancient earthish name, Arvid, it means 'forest for eagles.' But you may call me whatever you wish, and I'll worship you for eternity." Nira blushed again. She was starting to think she might end up permanently blushing. Eternity could he really mean it, she wondered. She shook her self. She had to focus they had to start there adventure. As soon as possible. Nira wanted to end this war, and she has now failed her people in one way.  Then again she had one less death on her conscience . So that put her heart at ease. "Arvid we need to get moving, I've already failed my people once. I won't fail them again!" She didn't known what was happening between them, but she was going to do her best not to let it distract her. She was on a mission of peace now. It felt weird but exhilarating at the same time. For the first time in her life she felt free.
Arvid rushed to his desk and grabbed the map and began to recite the ancient words to the invocation. He held Nira tightly about the waist, drawing her close to his side. He could feel her warmth, it made his whole body surge with great pulses of delight. "Plus ululatus a luminaribus. Ab incognitis regnis plus ululatus." Green and purple lightning filled the room and bristled all the hair on their bodies. Screeching fire bursts exploded in mid air shaking the walls of the cabin. Great growling rumbles of smoke emerged from nothingness and filled the room. Then darkness and then light. They were in what seemed like infinitely large white room. Nothing but white in every direction. They saw nothing. They could hear nothing except the sound of a powerful heartbeat. Nira gently clawed at Arvid's neck. He knew that she was thinking the same thing as him. When they should be thinking about the seriousness of the situation, they were really thinking of each other. Arvid slid his fingers down the back of Nira's neck to her shoulder which left his thumb just below her throat. He kissed her just above his thumb. Nira let out a soft but sharp moan, which made Arvid's soul boil within him. Arvid spoke after a long pause. "I guess we have no choice but to wait here and see what comes to us." Nira nuzzled Arvid. She didn't understand what was happening to her. She could feel her soul being pulled to him. As if this was destined to turn out this way. She was impatience and hated waiting. She needed a distraction. Yet she needed to focus. It was hard with him touching her and kissing her. Just the smell of him was driving her crazy. He smelled like fresh pines and Nira wanted to be suffocated by that smell. Arvid's finger brushed by the Zipper on Nira's dress. The hairs on his neck bristled up. He at once new that he shouldn't and that he should. He touched it again, it was cold inhuman metal, completely useless so he pulled it down away from them. He looked in her eyes. He couldn't name the look he saw there, something between shock, delight, and desire. A dense thick white fog slowly raised up from the ground as they kissed. It was so thick that it lifted them up. They soon realized that they controlled the fog in their minds. They lifted and moved each other with it, perfectly free from gravity, in dance like no other. Nira had only ever been off the ground when she used her wings. This was magic, he was magic. But not a dark magic like she expected him to be. He was a light magic that could make her think of sin. His kisses sizzled, and sparked.  They ignited her soul and warmed her heart. What ever was happening to them was deepening in the mist of the fog that they controlled.

They lifted and moved each other with it, perfectly free from gravity, in dance like no other. They emerged from the fog after what seemed like hours or even days, niether of them could tell. Their bodies were glowing with a warmth that was indefinable. As they walked aimlessly through the white nothingness, a path began to take shape under their feet. It was pinkish earth and well worn. They walked for hours and hours. As they walked, the white nothingness slowly turned into a world of tree's and animals. They could hear a great growling rumble just ahead of them on the path. Instinctively Nira shifted into a tree on the side of the path. A human hand came out of the tree and grabbed Arvid by the collar and pulled him into the tree. The tree instantly doubled in size. Arvid had known magic his whole life, but he had never experienced anything like this. He knew a thousand spells that would make you appear to be something else but it was just perception that was changed, no matter itself. He could feel every little cell from his body was mingled with Nira's cells and they WERE the tree. He could feel their branches bend in the wind, their roots that touched the moisture of the soil and their bark that felt strong and dry around them.
