Justin and Kaitlyn

Tonight I would like to take you back to 7th grade year

The setting is a middle school gym full of basketballs both far and near

You can say this is where it all began

Who knew a strong 11 year friendship could be built by one Duke and one North Carolina fan

These last 11 years have been filled with many games of pick-up ball

Along with intense ping pong matches that you always found a way to win them all

After middle school came high school, and then Carson-Newman University

Where we would be roommates for four years and somehow still turn out normally

Then there was Big Creek, SafeHouse and Cross Point

Which were all spiritual journeys that allowed you to come to a pivotal point

A point where I began to see God at work in you

I noticed how God was beginning to use you to make a difference in the lives of others

A passion that has stuck with you as you desire to change the lives of our future sisters and brothers

The work that you do with Yoke, Soccer Shots and Emerald is inspiring

Knowing that the seeds that you have sewn will cause these children to become aspiring

Aspiring to not be what negative voices have told them they will become

But rather the words of affirmation and support that you will continue to show in a large sum

At this time I would like to transition in to another topic of conversation

I feel like I wouldn’t do this poem justice if I didn’t talk about you running

Everyone around campus knew you as the guy who ran shirtless every morning

Honestly, I still think you are crazy and insane for running hundreds of miles without stopping

But I admire you for your hard work and determination to always get better and becoming

Becoming a man that lives out 1 Corinthians 9:24

Because not only do you run well here on earth but I believe God is looking down and is proud of the race that you have run in your walk with Him

Now, I would like to say a few words to Justin’s beautiful bride

I don’t know a lot about you, but I know that you are beautiful, that is both inside and outside

You come across as being sweet, friendly, and a woman who loves the Lord

You are also a runner and a healthy eater which had to be #1 and #2 at the top of Justin’s board

But in all honesty, I can tell you that you are one lucky woman

Because tomorrow you will be united in marriage to a real man

You know being a man means a lot of different things in today’s eyes

But Justin is a true example of someone who sets himself apart from the other guys

He is a man of upstanding character that will respect you in all that you do

While exemplifying Christ in everything he does by making it his goal to lead you

That is to not lead you closer to himself but to God above

I pray that you realize that both of you are special and it is no coincidence that you fell in love

Now I would like to say some brief words to both of you

I’ve never been married before so I’m not going to tell you how to push through

But what I do know is that a marriage based on Jesus Christ has the power to withstand any trial

Which is good news, since you both have been firmly grounded in your faith for awhile

I would like to end this poem with this simple address

Justin, treat Kaitlyn like a princess because she deserves nothing less

And Kaitlyn, stand by Justin and show him equal respect

‘Cuz if you do this, I promise your marriage will be far greater than what you expect

God Bless and Congratulations on your marriage!
