We don't have life anymore;

Just stagnant dreams and mundane conversation.
No people;
Just characters to fit the story.
Whatever people find interesting.
We all have our own stories,
Fairytales, hauntings,
And our monsters know us well.

Not in the closet or under the bed;

All around us, in our heads-
Not in the basement, not in the attic;
Under the sun where people aren't looking for them.
The monsters know how

To control and manipulate;
It makes it hard to communicate.
They know how to scare

And subtly cause strife and hate.
Underneath the painting of a world they created;
A scary movie in a parallel dimension.
It's not fiction,

But I guess they like to pretend it is.
Soon the painting is going to tear;
The world’s in for the biggest scare of their lives.
They'll see that the world was just a painting;

One no one cared to look behind.
