In The Corner

Look there in the mirror,

He beckons with a smile,

If you know what’s good for yourself

You’ll turn and run a mile.

You will have come across him,

Hope, it is his name,

But treat him with great caution

As delusion is his game.

He draws seductive images,

What ifs?’ and a ‘Maybe’

But it is an illusion

He gives to you to see.

His words are scented sweetness

A promise of much more

But he’s nothing but a lying cheat,

Be sure you know the score.

The Hope I met is dead and gone

I made sure that he was drowned.

I’m staying with reality,

My feet dug in the ground.
