Eh, just a kind of spurt of an idea I wrote out. Most likely not going to going to continue this, but it was a fun little work.

“Hey, think we’ll ever be able to go back?”

A pause.

Two eyes gaze upon the setting horizon.

“It’s hard to say, Sammy. The world is full of surprises, and a day holds many in itself.”

Two pairs of eyes glance over to the glittering sea. A marvelous sight, really.

“I don’t want to be alone.”

A moment of silence follows as the sea rocks back and forth gently to its own dance.

“Why do you say that?”

Lonely brown eyes glance up to hazy blue eyes.

“That’s how I feel.”

“Even with me standing beside you?”

A small nod, almost unnoticeable with the darkness cloaking them in protection.

“You won’t be alone, Sammy. I can promise you that.”

“Do know how long promises last, James?”

Arms cross in thought.

“Well, promises last as long as the person holds their belief in it.”
