Unfamiliar Masks:

Christmas is a time of joy,

A time of happiness,

A time of sharing,

Giving a gift,

A gift of exhilaration,

Or so it seems,

The smile on our faces,

The laughter of our friends,

Family.

Are they all just a mask,

A mask to hide the truth,

Hide our regrets,

Hide our false hope.

Because deep down inside,

We all know,

That the year to come,

And all the years after that,

Nothing will change,

Nothing will happen,

Nothing will alter the present,

The future or the past.

Unless,

We force it to.

An impossible task for an individual,

An easy one for mankind.

But then you see,

The real truth,

The world removes its mask,

To unveil its destiny,

Destruction.

Not of the planet,

But all life on it.

By whom?

The answer is simple:

Us.
