What if I told you, you’ll meet her one day

The only one, who you’ll want to stay

Reminded of who you are the way you’d least expect

What if I told you, she’s not even born yet

What if I told you, one day you’ll meet the man

The only one who looks at you like he understands

Inspired and lifeful in a way that’s new

What if I told you, his life won’t have time for you

Reaching for her future, clutching to his past

Both knowing it could never last

Like the sun meets the moon at dawn

His end of time will be her morn

Just time to get to know one another

But god does it feel like more than just a fling – life’s a funny thing

He said ‘why didn’t I meet you 40 years ago?’

She said ‘you needed this time to know I’m the perfect girl’

And they smiled, but really wanted to cry.

And despite her saying she never would,

He hoped when he’s gone, she’ll meet the man who could

Love and respect her in the way she needs

But she thinks too much for him for any other man to succeed

Reaching for her future, clutching to his past

Both knowing it could never last

Like the sun meeting the moon at dawn

His end of time will be her morn

Just time to get to know one another

But god does it feel like more than just a fling – life’s a funny thing

They filled their days with learning, music and living

All the while trying to stay strong,

because they knew it was wrong

Their time together had a sell-by date known as life -and that’s a funny thing
