Tonight

Tonight was different

The clouds were thicker tonight

The gray-tinged clouds of losing pencils and tripping up the stairs were gone

Replaced with the burning, stifling black clouds of anger, hurt, loneliness

The clouds that had no silver lining

No reflection of happiness, of hope

How could they?

Tonight, his lighthouse had burned out

The heavy clouds had grown too thick

Too frequent

His lighthouse

His shining, steadfast, glorious lighthouse

Had left him alone in the clouds tonight

He felt the gun

Felt its weight, its cool metal, against his palms

He saw it slowly rise up

Saw it glide through the air until he was looking straight down the barrel

Tonight

Tonight was different

Tonight, he pulled the trigger
