On Leaving the City

The gray clouds brood over slate colored buildings

The sun fighting to peek through

Glistens off windows

Whose eyes demand to see

 To watch

As sentinels

Counting those coming

Subtracting those going

Bringing home it's inhabitants

While escorting out it's visitors

The city

Hungry for the night to come

The darkness

And the comforting silence

It will bring to the streets

And the gift that will arrive

With a new day dawning

And Boston begins again
