This is a poem I wrote several years ago with some revisions. It's about a person leading a small group of warriors into battle. He is afraid that he cannot win with his numbers alone.

Few Can Overcome Many

I’m in the midst of a great battle on my gallant mount.

When will this war ever end?

Will I ever see my family and friends again?

Will we win this fight?

I’m starting to have my doubts.

I’m losing sight of the light.

Must the price of freedom and hope come to bloodshed?

As I look at the enemy below, I feel fear swelling in my heart.

But I pull my sword from its sheath.

Its sharp blade gleams in the sun’s light.

I’m ready to take flight.

I’m ready to face death.

These people’s lives I will protect with all my might.

The strength of the Lord will be my shield.

To the enemy I will never yield.

Strength replaces fear in my heart.

I feel like new hope is about to start.

I sound the command of attack.

Now there is no turning back.

Victory is in our hands,

Because of the Lord’s protection and strength given to my small band,

We can overcome the enemy,

Even though we are not many.
