Sugar Rush

Do you remember the smell as you walked through the door?

The sweet shop that was in house number four.

The smell of the sugar and all things that are sweet

Took control of your brain, took control of your feet.

So many things displayed for you to choose,

There’s not a rush but you’ve no time to lose.

You’ve got money to spend, it’s there and it’s handy,

For you to splash out on the sweets and the candy.

There’re chews of all flavours, all colours too,

And those gigantic gob stoppers, you’ll take a few.

Then there’s the flying saucers, the chocolate mice,

And sherbet fountains, dips so nice.

Chews in strips and chews in squares,

Those drops that look a lot like pears.

Liquorice allsorts, whirls and pipes,

Pick ‘n’ mix, all different types.

Those sweet cigarettes – you pretend to be cool

Then spoil the effect when you go in to school.

You said you would save them, make them all last,

You couldn’t resist, but the sickness has passed.
