Slouching before a desk

piled with papers

like snow-capped mountain slopes

I battle the sleeping beast

with only the potion of coffee.

The glow of the twilight

purple and blue screen saver

burns into my red eyes

like sunlight at noon

off a recent fall of snow.

Chewing the maroon polish

from my fingernails

I blink at the clock above

until my focus clears;

two hours left.

My fingers quickly find

their way to the keyboard

causing the winking black cursor

to leap into action

with the speed of an avalanche.

Grinning I allow my thoughts

to sweep through me

like blizzard winds;

pages add to my text

until the cursor stops

moving as I type

I pound the monitor:  Give it back!

Yet frozen they remain

like a snapshot

the computer remains

locked in place

and I didn’t even press save!
