Topic: Apathy

I yelled at my mother as I slammed the door. I yelled so loudly that I’m sure the neighbours heard. “It’s none of your business! Leave me alone! It’s my life!” I’ve lost count of how many times I said that to her. I didn’t care, I didn’t want to work. I didn’t want to clean my room or do my homework. I didn’t want her in my space or telling me what to do. I was going to get there when I got there and that was fine by me. I didn’t need her reminding me that I wasn’t where I should have been. She told me that I needed to become the person I wanted to meet. That if I was so interested in boys, then I should be becoming a wife that one would want. My reply? “Whatever! A man will love me as I am, not like you. He won’t care about whether or not I did my homework or cleaned my room.” I hit my mother hard so often with my opinions and what I knew about the world. Now I’m here, in this room and my boyfriend of the month has just walked out the door, why? It wasn’t because I didn’t do my homework or clean my room, but because my whole flat is a mess, even my roommate moved out. I don’t know how to keep it clean. He left me because I’ve lost another job as I didn’t meet the deadline and he’s not interested in “funding a loser” as he put it. I lost my boss thousands because I couldn’t be bothered, because I didn’t want him telling me what to do. I messed up and the client fired his company. I did that. My laziness and apathy did that. I have rent to pay. I have no money for food. I’ve sold the furniture my mother gave me. I guess she was right after all, my apathy really is killing me.
