The Angel Gabriel was sent by God, to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the name of the virgin was Mary. {Luke 1:26-27}

"Hail, full of grace. The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women." {Luke 1:28}

"Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found grace with God." {Luke 1:30}

"Behold, you shall conceive in your womb, and you shall bear a son, and you shall call his name: Jesus." {Luke 1:31}

"He will be great, and he will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father." {Luke 1:32}

"And he will reign in the house of Jacob for eternity. And his kingdom shall have no end." {Luke 1:33}

"How shall this be done, since I do not know man?" {Luke 1:34}

"The Holy Spirit will pass over you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you." {Luke 1:35}

"And because of this also, the Holy One who will be born of you shall be called the Son of God." {Luke 1:35}

"And behold, your cousin Elizabeth has herself also conceived a son, in her old age. For no word will be impossible with God." {Luke 1:36-37}

"Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. Let it be done to me according to your word." {Luke 1:38}

Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. And she cried out with a loud voice: "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb." {Luke 1:41-42}

"And how does this concern me, so that the mother of my Lord would come to me?" {Luke 1:43}

"For behold, as the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy." {Luke 1:44}

"And blessed are you who believed, for the things that were spoken to you by the Lord shall be accomplished." {Luke 1:45}

Mary, rising up, traveled quickly into the hill country, to a city of Judah. And she entered into the house of Zechariah, and she greeted Elizabeth. {Luke 1:39-40}

And Mary said: "My soul magnifies the Lord. And my spirit leaps for joy in God my Saviour." {Luke 1:46-47}

"For he has looked with favor on the humility of his handmaid. For behold, from this time, all generations shall call me blessed." {Luke 1:48}

"For he who is great has done great things for me, and holy is his name. And his mercy is from generation to generations for those who fear him." {Luke 1:49-50}

"He has accomplished powerful deeds with his arm. He has scattered the arrogant in the intentions of their heart." {Luke 1:51}

"He has deposed the powerful from their seat, and he has exalted the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty." {Luke 1:52-53}

"He has taken up his servant Israel, mindful of his mercy, just as he spoke to our fathers: to Abraham and to his offspring forever." {Luke 1:54-55}

Birth of Christ

A decree went out from Caesar Augustus, so that the whole world would be enrolled. And all went to be declared, each one to his own city. {Luke 1:1,3}

Then Joseph also ascended... to the city of David ... with Mary his espoused wife, who was with child. {Luke 2:4-5}

And she brought forth her firstborn son. {1:2:7}

And she wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them at the inn. {Luke 1:2:7}

And there were shepherds in the same region, being vigilant and keeping watch in the night over their flock. {Luke 2:8}

And the Angel said to them: "Do not be afraid. For, behold, I proclaim to you a great joy, which will be for all the people." {Luke 2:10}

"For today a Saviour has been born for you in the city of David: he is Christ the Lord." {Luke 2:11}

"And this will be a sign for you: you will find the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger." {Luke 2:12}

"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men of good will." {Luke 2:13}

And they found Mary and Joseph; and the infant was lying in a manger. {Luke 2:16}

Then, upon seeing this, they understood the word that had been spoken to them about this boy. {Luke 2:16}

Presentation in the Temple

They brought him to Jerusalem, in order to present him to the Lord. {Luke 2:22}

And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and God-fearing, awaiting the consolation of Israel. {Luke 2:25}

And he had received an answer from the Holy Spirit: that he would not see his own death before he had seen the Christ of the Lord. {Luke 2:26}

And when the child Jesus was brought in by his parents, he also took him up, into his arms, and he blessed God. {Luke 2:27-28}

"Now you may dismiss your servant in peace, O Lord, according to your word. For my eyes have seen your salvation which you have prepared before the face of all peoples." {Luke 2:29-32}

"The light of revelation to the nations and the glory of your people Israel." {Luke 2:32}

"Behold, this one has been set for the ruin and for the resurrection of many in Israel and as a sign which will be contradicted." {Luke 2:34}

"And a sword will pass through your own soul, so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed." {Luke 2:35}

And there was a prophetess, Anna. And she spoke about him to all who were awaiting the redemption of Israel. {Luke 2:36-38}

And after they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their city, Nazareth. {Luke 2:39}

Now the child grew, and he was strengthened with the fullness of wisdom. And the grace of God was in him. {Luke 2:40}

Finding in the Temple

And his parents went every year to Jerusalem, at the time of the solemnity of Passover. {Luke 2:41}

And when he had become twelve years old, they ascended to Jerusalem, according to the custom of the feast day. {Luke 2:42}

And having completed the days, when they returned, the boy Jesus remained in Jerusalem. And his parents did not realize this. {Luke 2:43}

They went a day’s journey, seeking him among their relatives and acquaintances. And not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking him. {Luke 2:44-45}

After three days, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, listening to them and questioning them. {Luke 2:46}

But all who listened to him were astonished over his prudence and his responses. {Luke 2:47}

"Son, why have you acted this way toward us? Behold, your father and I were seeking you in sorrow." {Luke 2:48}

"How is it that you were seeking me? For did you not know that it is necessary for me to be in these things which are of my Father?" {Luke 2:49}

And they did not understand the word that he spoke to them. {Luke 2:50}

And he descended with them and went to Nazareth. And he was subordinate to them. {Luke 2:51}

And Jesus advanced in wisdom, and in age, and in grace, with God and men. {Luke 2:52}
