You Gave Me Flowers

You gave me flowers

And it seemed as though

It was but a sign

That your feelings would go.

They’d been plucked from their roots,

From the things that they need

To keep them still growing

And allow them to feed.

When you passed them to me

They were already dying,

They were a foreshadowing

For all of the lying.

The blooms were so vibrant

But soon they would fade,

A premonition of invisibility,

A life in the shade.

So soon they were withering

Full of crinkles and cracks

Just like a life that

Was now looking black.

The petals, they’ve fallen,

They’ve disintegrated,

The romance, the love, has

Now turned into hatred.

But those flowers were never

Going to live for long

So as a token of romance

Maybe they’re just wrong.
